    Hello.

I've been told that a 250 GTO had an accident yesterday near Blois on its way to Le Mans Classic. It was clipped by another car at a junction. The passengers of the GTO were injured and taken to hospial. It appears to be chassis "3445gt" I did not seen it in the paddock at le Mans...

update : a french newspaper mentionned the accident :(

    http://www.lepoint.fr/auto-addict/une-ferrari-250-gto-accidentee-avant-le-mans-classic-quatre-blesses-06-07-2012-1482243_646.php

Hope the people involved in this terrible mishap will recover quickly

The newspaper said both the driver and the passenger were British. Barchetta.cc lists this car as owned by an American, but they may be wrong about that.

Actually I have to thank you, because I was very worried when I read the news. I know Brandon Wang, and I'm a good friend of his son, I really hoped he was not the one involved.

The paper also us the driver is heavily injured, let's hope he gets out of this relatively unharmed.

About the car, although we obviously don't know what shape it's in, I wouldn't worry too much. A GTO will always be restored, no matter the cost, and this particular car is probably one of the less original ones around, having already been accidented before.

    yep

knowing the car runs with uk style licence plates , it might have confused the wintnesses or the gendarmes.

Don't worry about Brandon Wang his car is here in the paddock and the rain did not seem to alter his mood :)

    Bad luck anyway...

This article gives more details about the accident itself. It states both cars were going in the same direction. The GTO turned left while the car following it was trying to overtake it. Again, they also say both occupants of the Ferrari were British citizens, which is probably a mistake assuming the car is indeed 3445gt.

Hope to read better news about the driver's health very soon...

You seem to imply something here. I was only pointing out it was not BW's car involved and as mentioned my thoughts are with the people.

Well, I do, but that is not say I don't care about it's occupants.

Didn't mr Ferrari answer the phonecall informing him of Castellotti's death by ordering to send a condolence note to the family only to direct his further and full attention to the fate of the car?

The Old Man did care more about his cars than most people.

I care more about Chris and his wife than his car.

Bad French driving style.... as we see too often these days... and with the new regulations and global mentality it's not going to get better i'm afraid...

What the hell was the driver of the following car thinking of...? overtaking while the car in front is making a maneuver in order to change direction...

all involved are in great hands by now. Hope they are getting better

Well, not to start an argument, but the opposite could also be said: don't make a turn when you are about to be overtaken.

Sorry, but it the overtaking drivers responsibility to ensure that it is completely safe to perform the overtake.

Based on the fact that the car ahead was making a turn, that means that the driver behind was performing the overtake at a junction. That immediately raises the danger level of the overtake as not only is there the possibility that the car ahead may turn, there is also the possibility that a car may pull out of the junction into the overtakers path.

I don't know what the law is like in the USA, but in the UK, the overtaking driver would be 100% responsible for the accident and would most likely be charged with either: Driving without due care and attention or even: Dangerous driving.

(I suspect that the USA is the same, and France will be too).

Best wishes to the occupants, I hope they both make a full recovery!

In France, there are no rules , just the norm - a 35 hr workweek, 2 hour lunches daily , red wine and rural roads.

Further nice photos at www.chtiphotocar.com, they did a load of professional shots of the tour...

Folks, it's time we suspend the F-car enthusiasm for a moment and recognize a human truth: Lives are more important than old machines. Period.

Heartfelt wishes of speedy recoveries to the Cox family.

Not necessarily. Mirror, signal, manoeuvre is what you're taught. If the car turning left didn't do that, then he would be at least partially responsible.

But since we don't know the facts, there's not much point in speculating - we'll just have to hope that everyone makes a full and speedy recovery.
