Yes, I believe Sig. Meiners was driving, he is o.k. I cannot confirm the sale of #3061. ~Ciao and best!
Franco is fine. Just his pride is hurt while he was really racing hard both cars he was driving. Look at his timing on the LMC website! Amazing, but it was wet and there arealways risks when driving to the limit. Should historic cars be driven to the limit? This is another debate, and you can look at the debate on Anamera regarding the use of replicas for the purpose of historic racing. I personally prefer driving slower and keep the car intact, but everyone and every owner has his own views. In any case, Both car and driver will recover, with time.
Seatbelts and the HANS did the job of protection. Franco was able to walk away despite the obviously heavy impact. http://barchetta.mediacenter.studioline.net/-/Events-by-Year/2010-2019/2012/Racing/Le-Mans-Classic/236-MASERATI-300-S-s-n-3061-1955-MEINERS-ITA/?Dir=2024574 And he didn't involve someone else unlike others in Grid 3. First and foremost, I am definitely not more Catholic than the Pope. I understand the fact that it is newsworthy and the importance for most on this forum. I explained my point of view and obviously I expected fellow f-chatters to be more restrained. Some didn't But hey, who am I to argue ?
Pictured is 3851GT after being crashed by Ernesto Prinoth in 1964. It was racing again a month later if the info on the barchetta website relates to this accident. This is the car that Henri Oreiller (pictured) was tragically killed in on 7th October, 1962. http://www.barchetta.cc/english/all.ferraris/detail/3851gt.250gto.htm The videos are of Fabrizio Violati revving the car who owned it for 45 years until his death in 2010. It is Henri Oreiller, Boudewijn. There are pics of Jo Schlesser in the link below. http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=jo+schlesser&hl=en&qscrl=1&nord=1&rlz=1T4SVEC_enGB480GB480&prmd=imvnso&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=Li7_T6S9B-up0AXdkpW9Bw&sqi=2&ved=0CEwQsAQ&biw=1017&bih=455
Yes. They were very brave. It's very difficult to comprehend how many of these men were killed. It was a long time ago and some of them could still be alive today.
Great picture. Did all alloy SWBs leave the factory with bumpers? 250 GT SWB Alloy 2787GT: http://www.barchetta.cc/english/all.ferraris/detail/2787gt.250gt.htm
Heaven forbid anybody post up pictures of damaged cars. Little African children might perish if we did that!
Both pictures are of Oreiller. Pictures of Jo Schlesser here: http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=jo+schlesser&hl=en&rlz=1T4SVEC_enGB480GB480&prmd=imvnso&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=lNX_T7bYDaKS0QWf8umCBw&ved=0CE8QsAQ&biw=1017&bih=455
Correct about 3851. Oreiller killed at Monttlhery in the Coupes du Salon event on lap 14.Reference in Emotion Ferrari page 298. It's interesting to note the plate on the car at Monza 80576 MO is the same as the original plate from 1962 when the car was new. Prinoth appears to be the third owner Going back to Boudewijn's post of 2/13/ 2011 it does appear the two pictures show two different accidents. Possibly the second one is from 1962 though the number on the side, though hard to make out, does not appear to be #3. tongascrew
Yes, 2 different accidents and 2 different cars. You and Boudewijn were discussing it previously. See the link below and scroll down the page where you can see that 3451 was incorrectly captioned as 3851. Boudewijn corrected the caption a bit further down the page. The top car, number 50, is 3451GT (Zanini accident 1963), bottom car 3851GT (Prinoth accident 1964) and the number on the side is 30, I think. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?p=140288349&highlight=oreiller#post140288349 Barchetta site 3451GT: http://www.barchetta.cc/english/all.ferraris/Detail/3451GT.250GTO.htm Barchetta site 3851GT: http://www.barchetta.cc/english/all.ferraris/detail/3851gt.250gto.htm Link to info of the Henri Oreiller accident: http://club.caradisiac.com/nuvolari31/herve-smagghe-7557/photo/copropriete-schlesser-oreiller-1269763.html
We are way passed this point and have confirmed that the more important people, while injuried, should be fine in a short time. Pete
While I am intrigued by much of the conversation in the topic, how are Chris and Anne now? Were they able to continue and join the rest of the GTO meet?? Anyone have updates other than "they will be ok?" PDG
The MP representative says that 35 of the 36 are left??? [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tZx5wxRlAs&feature=related[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDNsGytoEbI[/ame]
very glad to hear the couple are going to be okay! ...and once healthy able to turn attention to repair of 3445 found some pics of 3445 (prior of course), beautiful car! http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1962-ferrari-250-gto-s-n-3445gt/
Really sad to hear about the accident. I really love the specific blue GTO. Hope everyone is ok now. Best G
