I have many pictures of 1539 but found these in a draw this morning......I think this was when I first had it as it still wore those horrendous modern plastic number plates and had yet to be converted back to LHD...... Please also note the incorrect lamps in the grill....... The first two pictures are amazing...... I recognise the street. It was outside of a girlfriends flat in Hammersmith........Other pictures show her sitting on it.......yes, on an alloy car.....I had quite happily parked 1539 on a yellow line overnight on a very busy road.....Today you wouldn't even park an armoured truck there without it being stolen or vandalised....How times really have changed....... I think the other two pictures are outside the pub in Egham opposite MC Tower garage.......As you can see, it was USED and rarely washed....Happy Days...... PS.......I also seem to have been adverse to taxing the car as I cant see any disc in the screen ! Fabulous, Paul. Thanks for sharing those great pictures. They must have been very happy times. Actually, you said Vic Norman owned the car. Did he race it? I think I may have seen a lot of the car in Motor Sport magazine in the seventies?
Yes Vic owned the car.......UK reg then as KUU 1......He also changed it to RHD and many other little 'Alterations'.....Enough said but thus my comments of yesterday.........
Just looking at the ownership list of 1539 on barchetta and I see M. Clarke. Do you know if that was Malcolm Clarke, previously of Kensington Motor Company and MLG? I see also Tony Willis. I think it was him that interviewed me for a sales position in 1997 at Tower Garage. http://www.barchetta.cc/english/all.ferraris/detail/1539gt.250gt.htm
I too have seen that list and notice my omission..Actually there about 7 omissions...I should fit in between Hannen and Marq.... Yes Malcolm owned the car.......lovely man who sadly died a couple of years ago. He still had two Ferrari which his sons are keeping. I dont think Tony personally owned the car but Cooper Cars that he was MD of owned it...Sorry you didn't get the job at MC but by then it was nothing like it was in the Colonel's day. The only thing that hadn't changed...for the worse...was the name....... Would you believe that when Tower Garage was revamped in the 1990's, Egham council or whatever refused to let them put the Ferrari signs back on the top of the tower.......Apparently they had too many neon signs on the front already........So sad in my opinion. The revamp ruined the place. In my day it was a run down old style garage with petrol pumps out the front and I promise you when it rained hard we had buckets in the showroom. The stairs to the top of the tower were completely rotten....I know as I fell through them....but lots of the old records were stored up there....Today there are as many Porsche & Mercedes parked out the front as Ferrari.....The Colonel must be spinning in his grave......
You are on the barchetta list, Paul. I'm very saddened to learn of Malcolm's passing. My father sold his Miura SV to him and bought a 365 Boxer when he had Kensington Motor Company. It was actually me that did the deal with him. I was 14. He came down to Wales to our house with his wife to do the swap. I will always remember that day. Yes, he was a lovely man. Somebody told me he had a Boxer and a Lusso later. Yes, I was very sorry I didn't get the job at MC too. TW obviously didn't recognize talent when he saw it.
When Malcolm died he still owned his Lusso 4785GT UK Reg 888 FPY which he had owned for many many years..Always tried to buy from him but he would never sell. I think he was the second owner.....Tony Gaze being the first. Still has its original registration number. The other car was a 365 GTC Chassis 12715.
I see. He had the Lusso when I knew him. He was very enthusiastic about it. I remember him telling me that Eric Clapton had one. Very sad.
Think these were early 1984..... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you Steve for pointing this magazine out. Just when I thought I had every article ever written on the 275 GTB & GTB/4 I discovered another magazine I had not seen before. I just ordered it and am looking forward to receiving it...
I'm sure you will enjoy reading that, Edmond. Stirling Moss ranks the Daytona, 275GTB/4 and 250 GT SWB Berlinetta in order of merit after driving them at Goodwood. If you don't already know the result I won't tell you here and spoil your magazine read. Here is the very beautiful ex Graham Whitehead Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Competizione s/n 2009GT from about 10.40 on. Gregor goes on to show us around a 1965 275 GTB Competizione and a Pontoon 250 Testa Rossa at the end of the video. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAOOOPvo9Zw&feature=relmfu[/ame]
I have seen this clip already- its a pleasure listening to Gregor Fisken although that Lady who interviewed him and considering what what she is wearing proved quite a distraction
Yes, quite a distraction. Gregor Fisken kept his composure very well, LOL! The DB4GT looked great too. Perhaps Gregor knows of some cars that may be of interest to you?
Actually why don t you ask on my behalf? I have already Emailed him twice and he never responded which I find quite unprofessional. You can mention that to him aswell. Tell him what cars I own and that I am not someone who will waste his time. With many thanks Edmond
