Why is it that when you look at the Market Letter, and other sources for average prices for these cars they're way off (much lower) than what the dealers offer the cars for, and whay you'll truly end up paying?

Is it possible that there is confusion somewhere between the "normal" 275GTS and the NART 275GTS/4 Spider?

I wouldn't think that's the case. There is such a staggering difference between the two that it would be hard to confuse.

The current FML index (which I've found to be low, as I've said before) shows about $201K for a 275 GTS. I think the one that was sold in Monterey went for about $253K (and that was a good deal).

The NART sold at Goodings went for nearly $4 million. Because of the rarity of those cars, FML doesn't even show them on its Index.

FML prices are always low and no-one seems to be able to explain it. Maybe they are looking backwards 6-12 months. Cavallino is much closer to actual prices and seem much more current.

Morris, the best explanation so far:

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/velostrada/

Click on "Archives," "July 2005" and then "Market Guide Madness."

I would love to read this article but having difficulty locating it witrh the above instructions. When I select "Archives" from the top menu bar I see only two items

    VELOSTRADA ISSUE NUMBER ONE

    VELOSTRADA ISSUE NUMBER TWO

If I then select the "Archives" from the top menu bar on THAT page I see
    MONTHLY COLUMNS

but no "Market Guide Madness", just
    Welcome to Velostrada

MERCATO AUTO STORICHE – L. Wayne Ausbrooks

Sorry! I can't actually access Velostrada from work (firewall!), so I couldn't provide a direct link and was giving instructions from memory. My mistake is that you should select "Issue Number Two" and not "July 2005." "Market guide Madness" falls under the Mercato Auto Storiche column.

i believe the fml uses a rolling (no pun intended) model and therefore lags the actual market. Having said that, it has only been the last six months where prices have really jumped. 275GTS' could be had with little difficulty forever at $175 and it was rare to see one cross the $200k mark - now that seems to be a floor. the same is true for 330 GTS - i sold mine (which was platinum) for 265k in jan '04 and now you can't find anything decent under $300k. Sports Car Mkt prices are also way low.
