Chris, no dont do that! I use a fiber washer, I know many would disagree. If you check it all the time like me i found it has more give, strips the aluminum less and absorbs a bit of oil. You can try tightening it a bit by hand but use caution You do not want to strip that thread!!! Leaks are weird look all around for where it could be coming from.. I always try to fix my leaks but even with your new engine I think these things will always leak or at least some. I stopped using synth in my engine and that really helped but still using the syn redline in the GB. Those molecules are tiny and will find a way out! Always wipe it up so you can see how much is leaking and before you drive out look under and maybe have a better idea exactly where it dripping from? Rob
That looks like a pretty good size leak there, might track that down next time its in the air. I agree with Rob, that dang synthetic oil will leak from anywhere it can, I had more than one car that never leaked before I changed it to synthetic.
I had that leak - was the transmission breather. Seems to have slowed/stopped as it leaked out to the optimum level : )
You know I never thought I would have a issue with Redline. I'm using 75w90NS. I used the same stuff before she went under the knife with no leaks. Why the f now?? Rob you said fiber washer? You got a link handy on that?
Transmission breather? The only breathers I'm aware of are the two oil ones that go into the oil separator can thingy. Well, the other way around I mean.
Chris maybe you need to do the gb breather trick. Run a hose up over the shock mount down to the frame. Is your garage floor wood? Rob Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks for the tip Rob. I wiped everything up and I'll keep an eye on it. Hopefully I can narrow it down. No floor wood in the garage. Concrete slab baby.
Chris, I just bought the washers at the auto parts store will measure mine next time i have it off. They are about 1/8" thick and have some give, the copper washers have none. I would not suggest it for someone who did not work on their car a lot because if they came loose, that said I have never had one loose when i remove them. The breather is in your pic and in my two above. I think this could be your leak it looks like something is on yours a bit of hose with a hose clamp? Rob Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well, it's been over 5 months and I think it's time to start her up. Let's see if the battery trickle worked. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ha! Good thing I omitted the snow blowers on the left. Then you would have had some explaining to do. Well, no luck today starting her. Dead battery. So I did a little alteration on my air cleaner instead. I bought some air filters off a guy on eBay that said would fit my TWM throttle bodie during the winter. I just got around to installing them. I had to remove my original studs cause they where too long. My luck the wanabe machanic, yours truly, put red loctite on the studs. But I got them off after taking a nice nap and using a heat gun. I like this look. I'll run it this summer and see how she goes. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
wow, I feel blessed that i live in a place I could drive my car every day of the year if I did not have to work everyday of the year! HAAA Chris were you drying your hair before the start up?
You don't know how blessed you guys out in Kalifornia are with the nice weather. So anyways, I got the 308 started today. Drove to the gas station for some fresh hi test. Got a compliment from the kid at the register. Then headed up the hi way and open it up a bit. A couple of beeps and thumbs up to go with that. Then dropped her off at my garage condo for the week.
