What is the correct black protective paint to be used in the engine bay ? Is it regular underbody protection ? Mine is rock hard and chipping in many areas and allowing rust to build up.

    thanks

My 1975 GT4 was totally restored about 10 years ago, at the time the restoration shop painted the bay in Hot Rod matte black. This car has been judged and won many times by the FCA. They have never commented about the paint being incorrect or docked me points. If this wasn't the original paint then I think it is so close nobody can tell the difference.

I used Eastwood's under the hood matte black on my 308... great paint!

If you are referring to the thick textured paint on the chassis members you can get a similar effect using Lizard Skin noise reduction paint.

Regardung the factory texture, I used this stuff to replicate the orginal texture on the frame and other places that Ferrari used undercoating spray. Apply and paint over with matte paint.. great results! Image Unavailable, Please Login

    Hi everyone,
Thanks for all the feedback and comments. I was not sure if I can use simple rubberized undercoat paint, but I will try this and also the lizard skin paint to see what matches best.
    Cheers

I assume it was applied to reduce resonance. As you can see by the corrosion underneath it is not very effective at protection.
