Image Unavailable, Please Login My next task was the front suspension. I’d love not to do this, would rather put the wheels on and drive it, but the passenger side shock was for sure gone when I took it off the road so I kinda have to. I follow dflett website and he managed to remove the spare wheel liner thing pictured here. Here is the link. http://308restoration.com/2016/01/trunk-liner/ Unfortunately he doesn’t post how he did it, and I ran into problems. Dave this is where I need your help !
Image Unavailable, Please Login For sure this thing is held by rivets. In this picture you can see I’ve been drilling out the rivets. There is also a little bracket which holds the water tubes and electrical connections. This bracket is riveted on, so I dealt with that and fed the tubes through the hole in the side.
Image Unavailable, Please Login So I’ve marked all the rivets that I could find and drilled out. The problem is that with these rivets gone it doesn’t move. (And I don’t want to break it). I had expected it to move but it doesn’t. I thought it might be stuck so tried to pull it out but don’t want to break it. Are there any other secret rivets ?
Image Unavailable, Please Login The clue in David’s post is he says “riveted to the chassis with the edges glassed over”. Not 100% sure I understand this but suspect that you might have to cut it out because the “edges glasses over”. I have marked up the pictures with blue lines and I think this is where you have to cut. But I’m hoping David will confirm. What do you cut it with ?
Image Unavailable, Please Login Decided to proceed for now with the trunk liner in place. See how far I get. Ok. Have read a few posts on this but never done it. So here goes. I took the break line off the caliper first. There is a small hard line on the back pictured here.
Image Unavailable, Please Login In my case the hard line came out the back of the caliper easily but if was hard to get the wrench around the top where it joins the rubber line. I removed the clip holding the rubber line to the bracket and wiggled it out. Then disconnected the hard line.

Image Unavailable, Please Login Caliper is held by two big bolts on the back. There are also little shins which keep the caliper straight on the disk. The idea is to try and catch them and know which shims were on which bolt for when you reassemble. I tried.
Image Unavailable, Please Login Used my fine adjustment tool (big hammer wrapped with purple duck tape) I tapped the disc off.
Image Unavailable, Please Login Next removed the nut on the bottom where the track rod end meets the hub assembly.
Image Unavailable, Please Login The hub attaches to the lower and upper ball joints with a nut with a cotter pin through it.
Image Unavailable, Please Login The upper nut doesn’t have a washer as it has the bracket for the brake line.
Image Unavailable, Please Login The lower ball joint attaches to the lower a arm with two bolts and these washers. One of the bolts goes through the bottom of the shock.
