308 window cable spool - How to?

    I am working on my slow window, and I have everything removed from the door. There was, indeed, hardened grease in the gears. Also turns out that the cable is damaged, so I need to replace it. How do I separate the spool components so that I can remove the cable? This is probably very simple, but I cannot seem to find a way.

    Hey Kurt,
    I was working on mine this weekend and had the same thought. I was thinking that you cut it, but I'm not sure how you get it out of the spool.

    I have successfully removed the spool. You need to push down on the blue metal "shield" and remove the small silver ring that keeps the spool assembly together. We used an O2 sensor socket, so that you could push down at teh same time as removing (prying off) the ring with a screw driver. You can send me a PM for more details.
