    Has anyone replaced the bulb in the side marker light on a Euro type 328?
    Does the yellow plastic bezel just pull away from the body when changing it's bulb?
    Anyone tried LEDs instead of the incandescent bulbs?

    Can't answer your question but someone here recently (within the last month or two) posted about replacing the lense w.a clear lense so if you search for it that thread should help you out.

    From inside the wheel well you pull off the rubber dust boot from the lamp assembly and then pull out the bulb holder. It might be a bit of a struggle if it has not been off some time.

    I tried various LEDs in this location and none were as bright or had a wide angle like the normal incandescent bulbs.

    The link you provided was excellent.
    I gather I have to remove the mud guard from the wheel wells to get behind the fenders so I can pull the lights out.

    Yes, the mud guard will have to come off. Have a look at ALL electrical connectors you can see/reach while you're in there. Check for corrosion etc.
