Oh well, Spoke with Jim at WWoC this morning. Here is what I'm told, should have the car back tomorrow.

    Relay: Frequency Relay

    Function: Cold start function, BUT:

informatoin from the O2 sensor to the CSI SOOOOOOOOOOO: it effects the fuel to the Jetronix at all temps. It was starving the fuel injector.

That's what I'm told: It doesn't matter that I installed a test pipe some two years ago. No effect on the relay. It's just a failed relay, that degraded in stages. Just took $7000 to find that out. (actually now $8000). I'm going to try and get some back.

BTW: I'll post a picture of it when I get the bad relay back.

Just go drive the ^%^( out of it!! Probably needs a good airing out!

These cars are like my big Mercury outboard, it's SO expensive to not know what you are doing, it's best left to the experts sometimes.

Don't feel too bad, you've just made the long journey thru the wilderness, to get to the oasis of knowledge!! We've all had to do the same thing, at one time or another.

I think these cars have too many relays, IMO. LOL!
    I keep my hammer handy!

Thanks for the post. So is this the same relay as the 02 protection relay?

Also do you have your 02 sensor still connected? If not, so even with the 02 sensor disconnected it won't supply power to the frequency valve?
Anyone care to comment on this. Thanks.

My 85' has the 02 sensor removed and it runs fine but if this relay went would it cause any issues?

    John,

I'm glad to hear that the car is finally sorted (also crossing fingers). Josie and I will be at the Chateau this weekend. If you want you should take the car for a nice run this weekend. Wanna meet up? Let me know. :)

I've said it before and I'll say it again. For 34 years WWOC is the place to go.

Hey Speedy, I guess if she were the second mechanic working on the car, we could settle it nicely, buttttttttt?

Good morning Gus, I'd love to do something (one day I'll work on the house on a w/e). I'm not sure what the w/e will bring because of a sudden loss of someone very dear and close to me. If I find out the arrangements, I'll get back. I know Bruce has to cut loose to. Thanks also Len for the greetings, it would be nice to get together sooner then later.

    I'll get back.

    John

What's the cost of a frequency sensor, and should I put one in my tool kit?

It was called a frequency relay and it cost me $380. Not in my tool kit.

Gus, appreciate your sentiment and greetings, look forward to getting together soon.
