(I realise I am replying to a post that's over 3 years old) I was lucky enough to buy what turns out to be a genuine & complete 328 kit from ebay some years ago (I think I paid about £150 for it at the time ) and this has the 14mm combination spanner/wrench.... My question though is what's it for ??? because for the life of me I can't ever recall using a 14mm wrench/spanner/socket on my car! 6,7,8,10, 13, 17, 19 etc maybe, but never 14mm!
Nope, I guess I was too busy trying to figure out what the 12,16, 18 & 20 inch wrenches were for as well! Only Ferrari: A toolkit with a whole bunch of tools that don't actually fit anything on the car!
The 14mm combination wrench has a definite purpose, it is used with the spark plug tool, which it fits perfectly. Rgds
Hello, Hopefully you guys can help me out... I own a U.S. 1988 328S and when I received the the car from Barrett Jackson N.E. a couple of years ago it should up with out he tools or manuals. The consignor insisted they with the car and Barrett Jackson said they where not and had no responsibility. Any way, the consignor sent me the two rolls pictured below. The question is what are they ? and what do they belong to ? Any input welcome. These are an ealy "two valve injected" tool roll (1980-1982) and a 328 tool roll (1986-1989). The wrenches look mixed together to me. Try to sort the wrenches out first; you have a mix of Polytools wrenches and Kravm wrenches, Polytools being 1980/82 vintage, Krawn are later. See if you can actually get two full, complete, assorted serie of eight wrenches of each brand. Each of the eight wrenches in each serie should be identical to the next, with the same inscription on each side of the handle (inscriptions are not identical on both sides, but the serie of eight wrenches must all have the same, let's say "Ferrari" on one side, "Chrom Vanadium Kravm" on the other - or "Polytools"). The yellow/orange screwdrivers are late 70s, early 80: they should be matched with the "Polytools" wrenches. Both pliers are 1985/1990 variant, whereas one should be of an earlier design to match the yellow/orange screwdrivers and the "Polytools" wrenches. You are missing: -one spark plug tool. -and one emergency window crank, this for the earlier tool rool; the later one does not need one. Rgds
To add to this, neither sets of screwdrivers are correct for an 88 328. I know for certain that the black screwdrivers are incorrect. I can’t be absolutely certain about the other set from the photos. They should be dark amber and translucent with the Ferrari name etched in white along the handle sides. The ones in the photos look too orange and bright, and I don’t see the inscriptions. It may be just the photos, however.
Yellow/oranges without script are correct for 1980-1981 tool rolls; added to the "Polytools" wrenches, this is what makes me believe that initially, one of the two toll rolls started its life as a "two valve injected" tool roll. But the "Polytools" wrenches later got mixed with the "Kravm" wrenches from the othertool roll. Solid black handle screwdrivers are not period correct for any 3x8. They appeared in the nineties, and were also used by the factory in the "generic replacement tool roll" sold late '90, early 2000s for any 1980 Ferrari Rgds
Indeed, but one of the two tool rolls is nevertheless a good solid basis for a two valve injected car, and as such, has some value of its own. First thing to do, sort the wrenches out, see if two full series of eight of same brand, same design can be assembled. Next, see if the spark plug tool is for 14mm spark plugs (Inside of the crown 21mm), which would make it a 308 tool; or for 12mm spark plugs (inside of crown 18mm) and should this be the case, it would be for a 328 tool roll. Rgds
Did you guys notice on the the top of G1 and G2, above the wrenches the numbers 81702 (must be the last six of a serial number). This number is also written on the straps of the Jack roll and has a decal on the roll from Walnut Creek Ferrari. I will send those photos tomorrow. Jay
Wow, I tried to search using the six digits but came up empty. How did yo find that Sherlock I mean Magnum. Jay
Something off, that car is a 1989 but the tools are from an earlier car... Why would someone have the roll, with the wrong tools ?
Tool rolls travel a lot; they get separated from the mother car, tools get lost, the tool roll end up with half of the tools missing, then recompleted with "not always period correct tools", most of the time bought in good faith, etc... Btw, 81702 is a Giallo/Nero US GTS, built in May 1989. Rgds
Bertrand, How did you find it, when I searched those numbers, I found nothing close to a lead. Good job. Thanks J
J, this car was listed in the Ferrari US owners Club Membership Directory book since 1992. Also in Cavallino magazine issue #84. For sale in New York on May 2015 and since early 2017 by Motorcar Classics
