madturk- it's not as sucky as some would have you belive I've yet to drive a japanese sedan that feels like a go kart.
It's about more than just point and squirt speed... no skill or challenge involved there. Even my Mondial 3.2 has pulled smoothly and cleanly up to redline in every gear and cruises great at 140 mph on the Autobahn with my daughter in the back touring around Europe - and has seen 150 with pull left at redline. The magic and sophistication (to me, at least) is the balance and response of engine, transmission, brakes and chassis on those secondary roads coupled with the sound and the tactile feel. What a hoot. Everybody's different.
I have considered to buy the 348. I have a BMW M roadster DinanIII. About 300hp. and there is a guy with a black 348 around where I live. License plate on that car is FINLEY. Might be his name don't know the guy. But everytime I came next to him in my Little M car he went for it and I beat him everytime. Off the line not even close. I wanted to keep the M car and my bike and get a Ferrari. I couldn't do that. That is when I decided to sell my Harley fatboy so I could buy a 355. Other then speed I really don't think there is much of a difference beetween the 348 and the 355. I am happy for now. But the Z06 is allready keeping up. The new M5 is coming. Soon the 355 is gonna be averege when it comes to fast cars. I hate that. I love cars but sometimes I wish they would just stop making new cars and everyone should drive what they have.
Ok i do need this explaining to me, all the reports and head to head reports regarding 328 and 348s tell me the 348 is more powerful yes but is much heavyer,if i can remember the 328 has better power to weight.I have also read that apart from top speed which is 10mph different there is not much in it.Evern 1/4 mile times are very simular.I have drivern only one 348 and it seemed much the same,it certainly was not like the jump to the 355.So how can the 348 be THAT faster. Please explain.
As the official photographer of that pic I'd like to comment that there was much vibration and a "slight" breeze that day sitting on the jack stands. I bet it sure would have been great to do that on the way back from the track day trying to keep up with the police escort. Fun day that was Dave!
I've managed to get my 328 up to 160mph (260km/h)...just add a nice tubi muffler on it and you'll be surprised how peppy the little car gets.
If speed is what you are after, get a motorbike ! You will save a lot of money, and get more "speed"-feeling. But, you will not have one thing that very few toys offers: the body style, the beaty, the atmosphere ! Before I bought my 328 GTS, I tested 308 GTS, 348, 355, Testarossa, Mondial, 400 and 456. I had already decided to get a Ferrari for obvious reasons: the shape, NOT for the speed / performance. If I could have build the car myself, I would have liked to have a 328 GTS (or 288 GTO) body, the 355 interior and the 360 ST noice. Ciao from Anders in Sweden (258 km/h in my 328) and 250 in my BMW...
Totally agree with you Anders, the 328 is one of the most beautiful styled cars and certainly does not look out of place on the streets. The first 328's came out in late 1985/86 and they still fit in perfectly well with the modern looking 355's & 360's...
A stock 328 was timed by radar and GPS at the Silver State Classic at 170mph. I am unaware of any Japanese car that can hit that speed Also Madturk, The 355's hp from the factory is highly overated documented in numerous dyno tests ,factory claimed 375 but the reality is around 330hp I am currently in the process of installing a enlarged polished thottle body along with intake cooling mods on my 328 I fully expect to have minimum 290hp with my K&N and test pipe
What reported on paper from the engineers whom guestimate while driving down hill with a tail wind? Most reports I've seen report NSX at 160mph top speed and recently with some magic aero tuning the '03s will do 170 now, yeah right.
According to the new website about the new Gumball 3000 movie: "And be amazed at the Swedish Koenigsegg Supercar clocking up 242 MPH in Texas and talk his way out of a speeding ticket, as well as Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Bentleys, and even a nitros-injected VW Campervan take to the streets for the ultimate 'road trip'!" I'd like to see that: 242 mph
Of course, none are sedans! ;0) and I didn't think the RX7 could do 170... For that matter, I didn't think the NSX could either. Skyline hardly counts. Best! Ben.
If you care to place a bet on it, come on down and I'll take your money A Nissan 350Z with the limiter removed can handle 170MPH in top gear without raising the redline. I have seen claims of much higher with other aftermarket ECUs that actually raise the redline, but I don't put stock in them as I haven't driven a car with one. Bear in mind that the 350Z has a better drag coefficient than a 360 Modena, but it will obviously take a lot longer to get there due to raw power and gearing.
"Could a european full power 328 slaughter a US emmisions restricted 348? MMMM" Chaa, doubtful, the Euro 328 only makes 10 more hp (270 versus 260), and the 348 (USA) makes anywhere from 300 to 312hp depending on year. Dave
I've done over 150 in my slow 2 valve 308. Eventhough my speedomoter sucks, the owners manual say 147 at 7,200 RPM. I was way past that. I'd say at least 7,500 to 7,800 360's are slow too. Here a picture to prove it. Image Unavailable, Please Login
when i am over 150 mph i am not reaching for a camera...thats why you bring passengers, i cant imagine taking my hand off the wheel at 190 unless i were on a dyno, its gotta be impossible to take that clear of a shot
Damn you guys, this thread makes me want to go out and haul ass so I can take a picture too! Too bad my tires need replacing. I'll use that for an excuse.
