Wanted to give you all an interesting update. Out of curiosity, and to see how the engine is running, I took it to get dyno'd today. The result? I LOST -5hp , but I gained +1tq. The hp lines are virtually identical. On the old stretched out belt I made 305hp to the hubs at 7200rpm. On the new belt timed to the factory marks, for a car with cats, it made 300hp @ 7000rpm. Under the curve I did make a little bit more torque, I think mainly due to my new 3.8bar/55.1 psi FPRs. Peak tq for both the old belt and the new belt came at 6000rpm, with the new belt make 234lbft, and the old belt making 233lbft. All power was measured to the hubs. It's my guess that the old stretched belt retarded the cam timing so that is what "similar" to the Competizione cam timing. All my "go fast parts" were the same, the main difference was the cam timing and FPRs.
So you would believe that the dyno from 6 months ago performed the same way 6 months after and that its accuracy is well within the 1.6% discrepancy?
Had that been the only two dyno's, no. But seeing that I've dozen of pulls at Church's, both before and after of various setups, I do believe it. Oh and, Their margin of error is 0.50%, or something like that.
Possible but not likely. Last run of dyno pulls my afr at wot was around 12.8:1-13:1 on the top end, and 13.6:1-14:1 in the mid range. So the high pressure actually is what gave me a bit better tq in the midrange and +1peak. This pull we didn't have the sniffer in the tail pipe, guess we should have, but I'm not too worried about it. I honestly believe it has to do with the cam timing, specially since my peak hp dropped lower in the rpm band by 200rpm. When I had the engine out and on a stand I TRIED to book some time on an engine dyno. That way I could have seen what it was putting down at the crank, and fooled with the cam timing a bit. But I had no such luck finding a place in So Cali that was set up for doing such a thing, or even willing to, for a Ferrari engine. Still not disappointed, as my engine is pretty daggon consistent.
A couple of pics of a little modification I did to the fuel filters. I actually learned this a LONG time ago from a tricked out hot rod. They use to do the same thing to the coil packs. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Mmmmmm.......As it's a Ferrari do you have to use Coca~Cola cans or can you use cheaper supermarket brand Cola cans instead? (I'm just thinking about those trying to run their 348's on a tight budget! )
Wow this thread was crazy, we are going to do a Major to Acemasters next week and this was perfect. I know you talked to mike, we are going to do it off a 4 post lift with rails. Thx Ernie, you may get a call from Mike! Cheers!
Fantastic! You guys will do just fine. Did you check out yelcab's thread about doing and engine out on a 355 with a 4 post? http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/348-355-sponsored-bradan/426154-355-engine-out-service-w-4-post.html may be worth a look. I think you guys should post up an additional thread documenting AceMaster's 348 engine out w a four post. The more threads we have the BETTER!
I like the coke can! That should be Plugzit's signature for every major he does. He must drink hundreds of gallons of coke per year.
Big thanks to this thread! I got my engine out Stooges style You da man Ernie! Time lapse video here ---> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AS8daX_BtUg
Really enjoyed the video. Just a suggestion though - ave you thought of adding a commentary instead of the music? Would make it even more useful????
LOVE the video! That was GREAT! Nice job getting it out, and thanks for making the video. Here it is imbedded. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AS8daX_BtUg[/ame] Again good job Al, Stooges rule!
Great video! Make sure to do another putting the engine back in. It's great to see a major being done in a normal garage with hand tools.
