I don't know what they were 'supposed' to be made of ...... but seeing as how our bumpers and such are fiberglass ....... the wing will certainly be in good company ...... :)

It says right in the description that its "a reproduction", so obviously that means this is NOT a genuine Ferrari Challenge wing!

I will come back to this one.

Wings on street cars are saying "Go ahead, give me a ticket". That is, on a street car, wings are pure bling. I have yet to see a wing on a street car that is "pretty" some are inoculous, but pretty? Nah.....

Rarely are you at a velocity where the wing generates enough downforce to a: be useful, b: pay for the drag it induces. The whole rational for the F355 underbody aerodynamics is to avoid the need for a wing at realistic street speeds.

An F348 can get F355 (street car) downforce levels with a wing less than 1/4 as big as the F355 challenge wing {properly positioned}.

Also note: a wing on a convertable or a GTS with the top off is worthless, the air over the top has lost its laminar flow and the wing does not perform.

See: "Race Car Aerodynamics: Designing for Speed" Joseph Katz.

The location of the F355CH wing is in dirty air, you have the mass of hot radiator (and header) air comming up through the rear grills and interacting with the somewhat laminar flow of air over the (berlinetta) roof.

{Comming back to first topic} Now if you want the F355 challenge wing to really work, you need to move it about 1.75-2 feet backwards, beyond the rear spoiler leaving it about as high as it currently is, so that the low pressure area under the wing can help pull air from under the car via the diffusers adding additional downforce. {Idaly, the F355 should loose its spoiler to make the wing more effective. The F348 can just use a rear mounted wing direclty.} In this configuration, it might generate 2X the downforce it currently does and make the diffusers 50% more effective.

Since it is now ~2X as effective, and about ~2X as far from the rear wheels as before, it causes 4X the unloading at the front wheels as the original Challenge wing. However, it does plant the rear end like nobody's business.

So, if you do do this, you are going to have to address the aero push it causes, soften up the front end and then figure out how to balance the mechanical grip with the aero grip. Or add bigger front tires {probably the easiest route.} In any event, if you get a big wing like that to work properly, the whole mechanical aspect of the suspension needs resorting.

I'm sorry Dave but it has just been posted that a wing will not work on my 355 spider....

But I have some great news!!!!!!!!!! After extensive testing yesterday in the rain I found that my John Deere tractor has excellent laminar air flow but to get the wing into clean air it will have to be mounted on my mower deck.......do you have some bigger front tires "In Stock" that will fit the 9030???????????????? Please use this picture to determine what is needed...http://www.deere.com/en_US/ProductCatalog/FR/series/tractors/9030series/9030series.html

I'm not going to set this tractor up for running at LM but have decided to race it in LA(lower Alabama).

Damn, No downforce needed there! You have flat out lost your mind thinking I coming that way with that running loose in the country side, your more man than I, albeit a bit twisted!

That 9030 looks like a high brow, shinny Southern version of the logging skidders we use to weld up in Northern Minnesota...you guys are all about show, nothing about "go".

The Gurney Bubble (got to make room for that big (!) helmut) on your hardtop wont mess up the airflow to the wing that bad...its your snorkle I see as the problem area...spit out all that hot air under the rear and you will be fine.

My return this thread is 3 fold.
#1) The first picture....I mean WTF is goin' on there!!?(my eyes had to be popped back in)The second pic I get...creeps me out a bit but holy crap....I will never be the same and I have just lost all those years of therapy. :D
#2) to tell you guys that you are perverts :D
#3) What was the original question?

I have been in the garage most of the weekend checking the balance of my TBs on the 355 and some other preventive maintenance stuff. Apparently you guys have nothin' else to do? I expect this from FBB and the nut case from Georgia but you Dave this just shocks me!!??
    Braaahahahaha

PS Bruce I promise I won't kick sand on your shoes if you stop posting stuff like that!!
