While getting my 348 AC recharged, it was discovered that the recirculation door for the HVAC is non functional. (pics attached) Is there a repair solution for this problem that does not require replacing the whole HVAC unit? I don't know if this is my problem but the air cannot be directed from heat to vent to defrost - it just blows out of every vent no matter the setting. Any ideas?
That sounds like a problem with tambour door not moving properly, because of either an ECU issue or an actuator issue. The actuator is on the passenger side of the evap box, looking up from the passenger footwell: Ferrari Parts : 63307100 : 63307100 TIMING ACTUATOR. It moves the door around in a drum-like fashion, to direct air onto the windscreen, face, and feet.
OK, thanks Daniel - although I have to replace the coolant pump (which I have) first and I was thinking to myself that almost every car I have ever owned I just leave it on the "defrost/feet" setting so maybe I can just manually set it and forget it... Does that actuator fail a lot? Any insight into testing it?
I'm not sure how often they fail -- but we do sell quite a few. Send a PM to Fchatter "J. Salmon" -- he just replaced his in an F355.
If you want to see the ins and outs of the servo controlling the vents, check out the beginning of this video (presuming it's the same as a 348): [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKjQGPnehjI]Ferrari 348 Climate Control Substitute Part 3 - YouTube[/ame]
I replaced my broken door boss with the brass one from Ricambi. Works fine now. Seems to be pretty common.
Is this your video? I am confused, if your servo works as shown in the video, why make a "tool" to manually adjust it?
Ahhh, you're confused because you own a 355. One of the 348's weak links is it's climate control system computer box. It can be finicky and unreliable. Seems common that you have to turn the heat all the way to "high" to get heat, and if it gets in a bad mood it will occasionally throw error codes instead of giving the A/C or heat you want. So yes, it sort of worked most of the time, but now the heat is perfect all of the time. Too cold right now to see how well the new A/C controls will work. I also figured over time those computers will gradually crap out and kind of leave 348 owners in a bind. I wanted to see if there was a more fool proof alternative when that happened.
Seems to me that I made that piece out of a modified 1/4" drive extension that I had sitting around....but that was more than ten years ago, and I don't remember the exact details.
I tried closing mine and all you hear is the servo but the flap does not close. So I get the pin sheared and I need to replace it but where is the door. My car is in an apartment currently so I don't have access to work on it but I am trying to get the parts. Is the flap visible? In my mind is swings up and down so if it broken the door would be down I should be able to lift the door by putting my hand in there and lifting. All I have in an open hole and I don't see or feel a door that is left open in there.
Just got the car, just had major with front oil pump bearing replacement and tensioner update and now I am going through it. I am wondering where the flap is or if it is visible, perhaps it was removed. Anyone have a picture of the flap?
