I'm thinking of repainting my 91 348ts. It's the original Single stage Rossa corsa. The problem with the paint is the single stage paint doesn't have Enough thickness to it to endure the numerous polishing and waxing Jobs throughout the years so the white sealer is starting to show through at different locations So what do I repaint with? 2 stage with a poly clear or with a ceramic clearcoat or something else? I want as durable a finish as I can get.
Single stage paint is up to you if you want to go back the original a two stage base coat clear coat finish is going to give you a lifetime of shine durability .
I'm currently undergoing a full bare metal paint job on my 348. I'll find out how it's being done. Erik
I would use a base clearcoat system, they are easier to repair and hold up very well Glassuret or Sikkens makes a top notch paint along with it's pre coats, primer sealer etc Not 100% true. We can still use and have available lacquer paint. For production shops yes waterborne yes however they are extremely durable and give lifetime warranty on paint. We used dupont then sikkens at my shop before I retired. Absolutely great products still today
I'm looking at having mine done, too as it's SS parts are two stage while the original parts are single stage. I'm thinking single stage overall just for originality, but likely capping it off with one of the ceramic paint protection compounds out there. Basically, same net effect I suppose. Maybe it's a dumb idea, but I don't know much about paint
My Maserati GT front clip was painted with Waterborne (and my understanding is that was Maserati does from the factory) - it's terrible paint - chips way too easy...
Do the front clip in base coat then clear. Much earlier to maintain longer term for wear and tear on a bonnet (hood).
