Do you? Personally I think she has some nice details, like the air intakes behind the side windows that look like stretched textile, but overall I think she lacks continuity, as if each bit was designed by a different person. Just my opinion.
I’ve own my 348 for almost 20 years, in that time frame I have done two engine out services. It has been 7 years since the last belt change (time for a new belt), but before that it was 9.5 years. Here is my opinion on the belts, the belts themselves are TOUGH. It’s everything else you need to worry about, especially if it has never been addressed. My last engine out I did roughly EVERYTHING you could change, short of a complete rebuild. timing belt tensioner bearing idler bearing water pump thermostat front timing chain cover bearing rear timing chain sprocket bearing oil pump chain tensioner pad timing chain tensioner pad front timing chain cover gasket rear engine cover o-ring oil pan o-ring with a viton version front crank seal rear crank seal cam seals valve cover gaskets cam seal housing o-rings rear cam gaskets intake cam sensor coolant hoses spark plugs oil oil filter air filter coolant gearbox oil prop shaft triple seals re-pinned both t55 Motronic connectors with junior power timer pins (tin plated) And I’m probably even forgetting a few things, but you get my point. So this go around it’ll probably only do the belt, unless I decide to do a full rebuild, because I already did everything else. 3 year belt changes are WAY OVERKILL in my opinion. It’s 7yrs for my car depending on how many miles get put on it. 7 years because I already replaced practically everything that was worn out over the last 30 years. That and I am the one doing the work, so all I have to pay for is parts.
Wow, thank you very much for the feedback! In this case I think part of the wear is due to mileage too beyond aging, isn’t it? Hoe many miles did you do before replacing all these parts? Good that you can work on it yourself, because otherwise I think it might cost a fortune.
All cars age. If the car is properly maintained/serviced unless parts become completely unobtanium, I would put forth you can keep them running until countries make it ikkegal to own gasoline powered vehicles. It boils down to this question IMHO - do you want to be a caregiver to an elderly patient, albeit in shape with an entire medical history, who may at times need more care than others. Take care and nuture that you want to keep. And correct, if you aren't mechanical - learn or the upkeep could make those vacays harder. The brotherhood here is always here to help and most likely one of us has had the same problem. Hell, I called Ernie a few years ago and he walked me back from a cliff. There's no better group! My understanding is that the belt places a lot of tension on only a few teeth when it’s at rest, so those cars that don’t do many turnovers risk weakening the belt, hence the intervals set by the factory. Mine was done coming up for 2 years ago and it will probably get done again next year at 3 years. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
