Hi Walter, and others...anyone know the color of thei 3500 GT. I think this is the color I'd like to end up painting mine. Thanks. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Rob, this is AM101*566 . It seems , but not totally sure , Grigio Albany metallizzato (metallic Albany grey) . If this , the old original code was Max Meyer 16.249 . Grigio Albany seems also the actual color of your car. Ciao Andrea
..ugh! very difficult question. First - are you sure that the color of this car comes correctly and not mixed with the color coming from the overhead-lights?? Then, please note that the 3500 Spyder-Vignale came with 2 silver tones Argento Argento Luna (does anybody the difference between this colors???? I don`t!! ) and no less than 11 grey-tones: Grigio Grigio Argento Grigio Conchigla Grigio Fumo Grigio Glacé Grigio Grafite Grigio Met Grigio Met Scuro Grigio Platinato Grigio Polo Grigio Scuro No idea what the differences are! The colors of the 3500-series is a highly complicated issue and the then-time code doesn`t help you at all today due to a totally different color-code (RAL) that is used worldwide in our days. Ciao! Walter
Spyder Vignale ???? Rob owns the AM101*412 , a 1959 3500 GT as described in previous thread . And the correct list of available colours on 3500 GT and GTI for period 1958/1964 was: Bianco Polo Park Bianco Saratoga Bianco Avorio Celeste Chiaro Met. Celeste Ardenza Met. Blu Blu Met. Blu Sera Met. Blu Cobalto Blu Tigullio Met. Blu Ischia Met. Azzurro Azzurro Met. Azzurro Vincennes Azzurro Reale Verde Verde Scuro Verde Acqua Caliente Verde Tevere Verde Bosco Met. Verde Pavone Verde Savidin Argento Argento Luna Argento Auteuil Met. Grigio Grigio Met. Grigio Fumo Grigio Grafite Grigio Platinato Grigio Montebello Grigio Montebello Met. Grigio Albany Met. Grigio Newmarket Met. Grigio Inglewood Grigio Talpa Avorio Avana Rosso Met. Rosso Rubino Met. Rosso Cordoba Met. Amaranto Oro Antico Ciao Andrea
Thanks guys...you are the best. If vintage colors are no longer available....I guess I could turn to modern Maserati colors like Grigio Touring and Grigio Nuvolari.
No please... It isn't difficult to copy the original colour. I repainted my 3500 GTI in his original Grigio Albany met. easily starting from the existing coating, reproducing the formula with a good result . Advice. Take as a reference the dashboard surface, after an accurate cleaning with polish cream . Ciao Andrea
Of course it is not difficult to copy the original color of the car today. But when you don`t find anything on the panels and the color is completly different you can`t copy them when you only know the original color decroption. What is the difference between Argento and argento luna (for example)? Ciao! Walter
My advice was related to Rob's car . Looking at the pictures he posted , it doesn't seem so difficult to copy and remake the original colour . The dashboard coating doesn't seems so bad , and once cleaned and polished , it could give good indications . Also the internal side of the glovebox door might be a good starting point. I agreed with you that is impossible to say the difference between Argento , Argento luna and Argento Auteuil only knowing the colour descriptions. Ciao Andrea
Ermanno Cozza created a document several years ago listing the colors of the various Maserati GT cars. It is available at this link: http://thecarnut.com/Manuals/Paint/Maserati_GT_factory_paint_codes.pdf Unfortunately knowing the Max Meyer or Salchi paint code many times does not help. Max Meyer is now owned by PPG and PPG does have a few colors still available, therefore if your code is on their list you are in luck. The PPG paint codes are on this link. http://thecarnut.com/Manuals/Paint/Maserati_PPG_paint_codes.pdf Disregard the model years on the PPG page, just look for the code. By far the best method to match an original color is to follow Andrea's suggestion. Find some hidden spot with the original paint and have a paint shop match it. Ivan
Rob, there is currently a 1959 3500GT for sale on Ebay. I'm interested to see how much it goes for. I thought you might be also. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=200312508747
Very interesting! I am curious to see what she sells for. I hope to get my car to about that condition and drive, drive, drive!
Here is a link to a small color table. http://home.casema.nl/ruudbax/colors.htm The information comes from build sheets. Ruud Bax
Dear Maserati-friends, I am currently restoring a 3500GTI and a Sebring II. Finding the original paint and colour -if you do not know them- is quite easy. Ask the Maserati Factory for the original avviso spedizione and a certificate of originality (it is not free) and there you will find all the orginal specifications of your car including the colours. My 3500 was delivered in Argento Auteuil and the Sebring in Nero. Then find the matching Max Meyer numbers and order the paint at MaxMeyer (they still exist). https://corporateportal.ppg.com/refinish/maxmeyer/export Best regards, Pieter Noordman The Netherlands (aka Holland)
