The radio in my '96 355 Spider is just OK'ish. Signal seems to fade occasionally .. then come back etc.

Is this standard? .. If so, is there a fix?

    Regards,

    Pete

  2. Yeah, the fix is to throw it in the garbage and buy a decent system.
I've got an Alpine head unit with MB Quartz speakers and it sounds
fair. I really need some rear speakers and a sub to make a
    difference.

Could it be the fact that the antenna is molded in the windshield glass?

The radio in my '98 is a very nice looking Ferrari/Sony unit with lots of buttons and disc changer. The radio gets maybe one or two stations at best.

I'd be lying if I said I used it, though.

    Best,
    Pino

    F355:

Did you notice a significant improvement in reception when you changed heads? Also, would you mind sharing which model MB Quartz speakers you had installed? Did they fit without modification?

    Nice photo in your profile.

355s have a powered antenna amplifier built into the car, it's located behind the passenger dash ac vent, below the windshield. In the factory radio wiring connector at the radio, there is a small red wire, this feeds the amp, this needs 12v when the radio is on or reception may suffer. If replacing head unit, make sure this wire is connected to the amp turn on, or power ant. lead.

I have an Alpine and reception is great....I was also going to mention what Zan already posted.

Additionally, I have a 200w amp and ADS speakers (all fit stock holes) and the stereo puts out a great sound...even with top down on freeway.
