355 reassembly

Great thread, I'm glad I cut the hose now... I will be replacing both the bleeder hoses.

 

Thanks for the info! Does this mean that someone has already replaced some of the units or did it come factory mixed and matched? I have 2 green and 1 black.

 

I need to post a picture of my hose cut away, looks very similar to the one you posted Dave on that thread. When I picked up the new hoses today I realized that they are supposed to be ~1/4" I.D. all the way through. I hadn't imagined they would close up that small, looked like solid rubber to me with a tiny hole in the center. I will post a pic.

 

I've got it in and running. Runs very well too. I've just got one stinking noisy tappet that's driving me nuts and hasn't gone away yet. Oil is up to correct level. Ran it probably a total of 30 minutes with a little revving.

 

Took it for a drive several times tonight. Runs superb. A little difficulty shifting, maybe just a linkage adjustment needed. However, I still have the really loud 'tapping' noise. Honestly, can't tell 100% if it's a lifter or an exhaust leak. It taps loudest when idling but nearly goes away when it's revved up. On decel it's gone until down to idle again.

Looking to get maybe a stethoscope or something similar to really be able to get in there and listen. My thinking is either it really is a sticky lifter or it's leaking right at the Fabspeed header. I was thinking of the possibility that maybe I got one of the exhaust gaskets on the ports 180 off (just brainstorming). I've double checked all the nuts and they are all snug. I'm just guessing really until I'm able to pick up something to hear it better with.

 

Well, I found my noise. It wasn't a tappet.

 

Fabspeed worked with me to get the issue resolved, overnighting everything to me to get me going ASAP. They are great to deal with. I have them on now and they look and sound great.

I'm now trying to get all the wheelwell covers and underpans on, since I didn't take them off it's a bit of a challenge figuring out where all the right screws go.


The car really runs great, Gary (Enginefxr) did a great job on the engine and the Fabspeeds are a great replacement for the OEM headers.

I managed to get a nail in the left rear tire somehow, luckily figured that out at home since there is no spare. Taking that in to get repaired today.
