In the Ferrari world that is day and night. 2,000 cars, that is quite a bit. Enough so that in 10 years if you take into account the cars that survive and the ones that dont, that number will increase quite a bit. But again 2,000 is enough to confirm my prediction, even though the 355 maybe a better car all around, extra horsepower is always good, and maybe in 10 years all the 355 bugs and expensive gremlins will be sorted out. As of yet, they are not. The plus side with the 355as we all know is not just the horsepower its the complimentary hair gel.
You guys don't really think that 2k more cars over a 5 year production run is going to influence price at all do you? Bottom line, it won't. When I was Ferrari shopping I had no clue how many of each model was produced, that wasn't on my criteria list. I wanted the power and style of the 355. If you want a 348 or 355 they're out there to buy, scarcity of either is not driving price. The price of mine hasn't dropped a penny since I'm not selling .
Like the title says, maybe not now but in the near future, history as shown us the less the numbers, the more likely they will go up. History tends to repeat itself in most aspects of life, especially in the Ferrari world. Mind you neither a 348 nor a 355 are goint to bring 275 GTB or Daytona money. But the gap is closing, then it will even out. A well sorted out 348 is a great car, a well sorted out 355 will always have the possibility of valve issues or header issues and as always good cars will always command a higher price. And 2000 cars in a 5 year period in the F car world is a huge gap. If we were comparing 355's to 360's you would most likely agree that the gap is huge. Glad your not selling, am not selling the 348 either. I would not sell any car right now, but it sure is a buyers market, cash is king and lots of great deals out there, now anyone know where I can find a silver 550 with bordeaux interior to match the 348?
The 355 is to the 348, what the 328 is to the 308. An update, yes; an upgrade? The evolving market indicates that is debatable.
Desirability vs Availability drives price ................ Demand vs Supply ............... there are a lot of 'low production' cars out there .......... but if few want to buy them ............... well ..........
Just buy a silver one any interior and just redo it. Ferrari interiors suck and will need refurbishing and what you change to will be better than OEM and custom. What can be better than that?
I don't see this as being equal at all. The 355 will have a different legacy all together. I think the 328 is really known as the best possible 308. Don't get me wrong, I love my 348, and when I'm too old to realize it, it will be a classic - as will the 355. I'm sure we all the know the history here, but the 355 will be known as the first Luca Montezemolo car. Much like the F40 is known as the last Enzo car. When we're old men I think Ferrari will be known in different periods and no doubt Luca Montezemolo will have his place in Ferrari history. He brought the F1 team back from the dead, and his new cars restored Ferrari's road car reputation. We all know what happened with the 348. It was a marvel at first, but after the Ferrari goggles cleared up, they realized the car was mortal - no thanks to the NSX. I don't think it's initial build quality problems will factor into it's future value, nor do I see it's competitor's (911, NSX) performance of the time affect it either... but it will not be a great Ferrari. 250, F40, Daytona, these are great Ferrari's. The 355 will be known as a great Ferrari. It's probably one of the best modern designs, yes the 348 is similar and I think beautiful as well, but I don't see anything to argue about when looking at the 355. The 348's rear, and side strakes aren't universally loved. For the next 20 years - the cars will be similar in price, but as time moves on and these cars get older, and more difficult to find - I can't see the 348 being worth more than a 355. That said - I still would take a 348 all over again.
An upgrade, I like that and agree! Thats the perfect analogy. FBB, your absolutely right about those interiors, a silver 550 with any color interior will do. Now if only I had a crystal ball or a Ouija board, I could figure out where to put my money for the next 5 - 10 years.
I have an idea for a thread.... "348s are dropping like rocks!" It can be said about any Ferrari these days.
Old thread, 348's have pretty much already bottomed out. But good one, made me laugh Seriously though, all F cars have lost lots of value like everything else these days, (thats why am looking for a 550 to add to the garage) but there is still room for 355's to go down, and 360's even more so. Now gentleman, this is all my humble opinion. But like anything when you have a vested interest in a subject, we all tend to get a bit more emotional instead of rational.
Hey FBB sounds like you are one of those guys that thinks what ever you have is worth it's weight in gold and what everyone else has is crap, Braahahahaha. Hey I know of pristine factory 355CH you could buy 75,000.00.
I am so tired of hearing the F355 getting labelled as a 'Maitenance Hog'. The only reasons it obtains that label is because: 1) Many used ones are abused and/or neglected and have you to fix the problems the previous owner didn't do but should have 2) Many owners just plain drive the sh*t out of it, redlining it everytime out 3) Many don't do the required maitenance or change out 'wear parts' when it needs to be done I think the F355 is a heck of a reliable and maintenance free car as long as you do what your suppose to do when you're suppose to do it, do a thorough-don't-cheap-out-on-replacing-parts engine out, warm the car up properly before hitting it hard, and have an honest and reliable mechanic or invest the time to know the car yourself. -Billy
Its a maintenance hog due to having so many great 348 parts Sounds like were getting more emotional then rational. Both great cars, homes even in the nicer Los Angeles real estate area are dropping also (not like some of the rest of the Country but still dropping like boulders...) My 401k, well I should of cashed out a long time ago, and lastly yup, F cars are dropping too as we all know, makes for good buys. Again, I will ask anyone know of a great 550????
To me 75HP is quite a bit of difference. Id rather have 2 timing belts as well....Lots of potential for that single rubber band to snap....I know a few that have...OUCH
has anyone seen these 50k 355s i bet they need like another 20k just to get them in a ferrari owners condition, not to mention if they've been hit, remember people its california i've seen people put together some crazy ****.When i bought my car i thought i was getting a crazy deal but no the guy lied and forged all his reciepts there was nothing done to the car no services and the top stopped working on me after 2 weeks.i could have taken the guy to court but it was my first ferrari and i fell in love with it.Im also willing to bet that they did get hits on them but people (a lot smarter then me) just walked away
Lroc sorry to hurt your feelings. I'm not this way at all. Goth, you know me, what a ridiculous statement to agree with. I have no dog in the 348/355 hunt. I own neither car nor in the market for one. The thread is about 348/355 actual market prices. The numbers I posted are real numbers we see right here right now. I am not making this up. In fact you can call these guys and those cars are still available. Sounds like the time I said I was going to rebuild my 348 gearbox with homemade special tools. I got laughed at then too.
Thurston Howell, I agree with you...You get what you pay for, I'm 100% sure these things at 50K are sh*t.
Perfect analogy! I think time will tell that strakes are very strong Ferrari imagery. The 355 has a sweet rear end however. BTW, slightly off topic: the 85' and 86' SINGLE, HIGH MOUNTED Testarossa mirrors were the best!
I gotta say mate that I pay pretty close attention to his posts and you probably have this one wrong.
I don't understand.....the 355 is a simple beauty...it has timeless looks....who cares if it drops its value.....What does it matter? Just for an ego show? You drive the 355 because you love it, not because you want people to know how expensive of a car you drive. That's ridiculous. It's a beautiful car, period.
