ERR wrong but thanks anyway..I have sorted the problem After aquiring a Tech workshop CD of Ebay cost £2.50 The cooling system is a self bleeding one... The reason the fans were not working was the cooling system filler cap was nt holding the pressure in the system in other words the cap was faulty Thus the front radiators were airlocked and not getting up to temp. fitted a new cap job done with little cost I am happy.. :D

You are very welcome :)!! I would have not suspected the reservoire "cap", though it does make sense now that you have explained the nature of the system..... Great job!! :D

Bizarre, but glad to learn that you've sorted out the problem by yourself.

Glad to see you found the problem.

As for the system being self bleeding that's not quite correct. When a bad air lock happens, it will not self bleed out. If that happens you can get rid of the air with a regular pressure tester with the following procedure.

    1. Have fresh bottles of coolant ready to pour into the tank.
    2. Pressurize the system with the tester, then QUICKLY open up the connection.
    3. The compressed air-pockets quickly expands as the system is opened up so they rush out which in turn push coolant out the tank.
    4. As the pressure is depleted, the system then starts to contract and sucks the coolant back in.
    5. This is when you pour in the new coolant to ensure no new air is sucked back in.
    6. Repeat until no more air is in the system.

This procedure is courtesy of Ferrarifixer and works infinitely better than trying to bleed with the small screw on the water neck at the front of the engine.

I admit bizarre such a simple thing. At one stage I was thinking the worse the temperature had got very hot whilst stuck in traffic and I thought it had caused damaged I was told to look at the most basic things first I had checked the fans were working I assumed the thermo switch was nt working
After reading about the airlifter I received the workshop man which implied its self bleeding. So then had the cap tested it was a joke it did nothing held no pressure . It just goes to show a cheap cap could have caused a very expensive repair ..thanks

Still think you should use an Air lifter, as it would ensure there is NO air in the system at all!

My fans does not work, it appears the left side radiator is hot but not the right side one, so what could be the problem? I jumped the thermal connector and both fans works. How can this be possible? Thanks for your help.

I checked again, it appears both the left and right side radiator get hot but the fan does not come on when the temp gauge read 280 degrees, I actually touched the coolant, it is hot but not 280 degree hot, so do you think that I have air in the system that why I am getting false reading? so the actual coolant is not hot enought for the fan to come on?

Per this thread, you should first check your coolant level (may need topping up), then your radiator cap (may need replacing), and then you may need to replace your radiator thermo switch (can be tested by unscrewing, removing, dropping into boiling water and then testing the two metal contacts for resistance with an Ohm meter).

I have just checked the level it was down topped it up then got car ticking over as it was approaching working temp it started chucking the coolant out through the over flow pipe ....?[/QUOTE]

The expansion tank should not be topped off, Check your manual - mine says fill to 2 3/8" below the bottom of the filler neck..... you need room in the expansion tank for it to function properly

Mine use to do that. Open the little bleeder valve on the radiater with the engine hot. Let the air out until some water comes out. The fans should turn on as long as that is the only problem. Worked for me everytime. Nick

I never check mine while it's hot. I get a good stream after air (if there is any in it) with cold coolant and I don't burn the **** out of my hand.

Why does it have to be hot?

My car was just ticking over say stuck in traffic or whatever, and it started to overheat, no problem when moving.

The problem was the fans were not coming on because the pressure in the system was,nt getting up to normal pressure.

This was because the rad cap was knacked not holding the pressure in the system thus blowing it out the expansion pipe.

    New cap job done..

BTW in the man it says its a self bleeding system although this is up for debate..

when i got it was ground the thermo switch by taking the plug conector off the thermo switch and jumping the green and the black wire.this makes both fans turn on. both fans stay on when i open the switch and the car stays cool between 180f and 208f.turn the ignition off and both turn of.if i turn the ac on the passengers blows stronger. I just by pass the stupid thermo switch.and dont have to worry about over heating and the drivers side fan turning on.
They both come on with the ignition is open and i can here them on.no more over heating in stop and go traffic in miami fl.
