Thought the group would be interested a pic of what my 365 BB barn find (#18265) will look like when finished. It is being redone in its original colors of Blu Dino with beige leather and blu carpets. Sat static and partially dis-assembled in a barn for 10 years before my purchase. Thanks to the FABULOUS folks at Cavallino models, I can now see what the completed job will look like.

First pic is the car in its current state. Second pic is car in bare metal. Third is car in "as found" condition - gives new meaning to the name "boxer". Fourth is what the car will look like when (if?) it is finished. The rest are pics of the current state of the motor.

    Hope someone finds this interesting....

Great to see its moving along, should be blasting around in it next summer. Im assuming you are doing a complete nut and bolt restoration, suspension, chassis, blah blah blah......

How straight were the panels once down to metal? Loads of high build primer?

Yes - we are doing the entire suspension, all brake components, etc. Replating all peices back to correct yellow cad or clear ano etc. Next summer may be optimistic. :(

The body did have a thick coating of high build primer - clearly from the factory. No rust and little corrosion on the aluminium, but the factory clearly skimmed the whole car with filler to smooth it.

What's not to like -- I think the medium blue colors really go well with black cover/trim/mirror pieces.

I think the color combination is beautiful. There seems to always be a perceived trade off between "originality" and "desireable" color schemes. What moves your soul is what matters, and I believe certain F Cars lend themselves better to certain colors. The BB's seem to stretch the gap very well to almost any color combination, with the composition of boxer panels and interior/exterior complimentary colors extending the aesthetic to where the performance is matched by the beauty of the creature.

Good Luck and can't wait to see the progression!

Wow! I think you're gonna have one spectacular BB in the near future!!

Yours should look similar to this (w/o the black bottoms). This 365 sold recently through The Stable...anyone here the proud new owner?

I agree with you on the versatility of the BB vis-a-vis color. Where I got luck on this one was that its original colors are pretty cool - although the car was red when I got, Ferrari reports that it was originally blu dino with pelle beige connolly and blue carpets and no boxer trim - so, no need to deviate from originality (the model replicates the original configuration).

This is not the case with my dino 308gt4. It was originally agrgento auteil (silver) with black boxer trim, dark red leather and BRIGHT red carpets - really putrid. I have since repainted it in all blu chiaro, leaving the original interior as is (too well preserved - would be a sin to replace). Of course, even at the FCA national there is no penalty for a color change to an "in range" color (and a gt4 will always be worthless anyway) so I am not too worried about it. Hapy the BB can be cool and orig though - thanks for the kind words.

That is a great 365. Very cool. That color is azzuro, my color, blu dino is the next color darker in the range (i have the paint chip book). I had a 365gt in that color (#13141, ex Livanos).

Also, it looks like this car in your pic has LUGGAGE (look close). Would pay big $$$ for that.

Oh - and LOVE your 328 - my wife wants a blue 328 in a big way - please call me first if you ever want to sell

    Thanks,

    A

Looking good, might consider upgrading to the 512M diff while everythings apart, 365s had weaker diffs than the 512s which are weak as well.

The blue will look good, their was one for sale from RPM motorsports that was a darker metallic blue that was just stunning for the 365 as well.

You are right about the filler, Ferrari used alot to cover the imperfections in the panels, honestly they could have spent more time getting them straighter so less filler would have been needed but I don't think they cared, went through this when I painted my 512BB

    Hi Alex,

I found out my newly acquired 365BB was Dino Blu as well when new (#17977). Yours is the only Dino Blu one I've been able to find pictures for but none with the car complete - I think you haven't posted them yet. How about an update - she must be ready by now surely? I'd love to see the end result.

Nice work what I've seen so far, BTW, the interior is stunning (http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=180291). Congratulations on bringing one back from the dead!

    Cheers,

    Onno

    Onno:

Car is not done yet but getting close. Engine is assembled and heads are on. Block wound up needing to be align bored and this slowed us down by ~6 months. So, no pictures of the car assembled but here are a few of the body in paint to give you an idea of the color. Really just need to put the engine in and the suspension back on at this point. Might have it on the road before winter - if not then definetely in the spring.

Pretty much, yeah. Repainting chassis tubes, removed, disassembled, rebuilt and replated ALL suspension and braking components. All new bushings. Refinished gas tanks, all new paint and interior, rebuilt engine, trans and diff, window motors and cabling, etc. Refinished wheels with new trim rings, etc. Wiring harness is pretty much the only thing we did not touch, but I did replace the rubber insulated tubing under the front bonnet etc. that the wiring runs through. Should be pretty nice when done.

    Thanks for your interest!

Well, Alex, too bad she's not on the road yet, but at least you can see the end in sight. I'm sure it's going to be worth all the trouble - the interior is at least absolutely stunning. One more winter, eh? 2009 looks to become a memorable year! Thanks for the update.

Geno, I always enjoy photo's of your car! Beautiful Boxer.

The Boxer book lists my car as Blue Sera. I always thought that Blue Sera is a darker shade of blue. It seems that the color of my car is some where between Dino and Sera blue...

    Alex,
Hope your project is coming along. I just looked at the BB vs Daytona thread and you mentioned it might be done in the spring. I assume you are taking a ton of pictures documenting the extensive work.

Please post pics, even before and after of suspension parts plating, partial engine assembly, etc.

It is easy to ask since I don't have to take the time to download! Love to see whatever you can share. Thanks,
    William
