SEEKING COMMENTS ON MY MISC COMMENTS INSERTED WITHIN PARTIAL OWNER LISTING 61/may/01 - William Fisk Harrah, Reno, NV, USA ------------------------------------------------------------------- Did Harrah buy it for Hudson to race? I wasn't aware he sponosred racing? Or was Reno Consolation the name of Hudson's racing team? I wonder if it's a mis-spelling, meant to be "consolidation" (a phrase used in trucking where you consolidate freight). Also Skip Hudson was a racing driver for Shelby American so he was a in-period racer, not a vintage tracer When Steve Earle joined with Pinky's widow to sell the car, does anyone know what they wanted to sell the car for? I guess Steve was getting the Monterey Historics off the ground then, so couldn't keep his own funds tied up in it for long or maybe he didn't own part of the car-- just helping her get the best price ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 61/sep/24 dnf Reno Consolation Skip Hudson #10 61/oct/15 dnq Riverside USAC Skip Hudson #90 65/nov/26 - Charles H. I was involved long ago (1991/1992) with this iteration of the 412MI (called at the time) for David Livingston via Pete Lovely Racing. Bitzman: "Reno Consolation" means it was in a Race at Reno, Nv. The "consolation" race was for cars that did not qualify for the "main" event. Harrah owned and sponsored the car is some races with Skip Hudson driving. Bob Donner was of the "Donner Pass" family. Carle Conway was a businessman from the upstate New York area, and later lived in Colorado.
Are a couple of those pix with Phil driving from Riverside? I was a turn marshal at the Riverside event when Phil in this car had a race-long battle with a Scarab, changing leads almost every lap. After all these years, it was still the most exciting race I had witnessed. The Scarab won, but not for lack of trying on Phil's part. The 412 ended up with a gouge from a guard rail along one side. I didn't know whether to root for the Ferrari or the beautiful home-made Scarab.
Funny how color, or lack thereof, can completely change the effect of a photograph. Same car, on the same date, at the same spot: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ed -- I think you are remembering the 1959 Riverside event(?) -- Phil was driving 0768TR and kissed the entire side and breaking off the outer caps of the knockoffs in fact.
