I got the ring nuts off but the pump plates don’t want to budge. Any tricks here? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Probably just a sticky gasket, you're gonna get new covers and gaskets anyway aren't you? Just pry them out. If you're gonna save the covers do NOT pry on that center stud, it's a really weak point for cracked covers. Try some WD40 around the edges
Thanks man. My plan was to put a nut on it and pull on it with some pliers. Did that a little already. Going to try some physics. Leaving the gas cap off tonight. Plug is all back up tomorrow morning. See if the pressure build up will push it out some when the temp rises tomorrow.
This can happen, it probably will eventually anyway as the plastic ages. Worst case pry up on the brass fittings, that's bad but not as bad as prying on the stud. BTW, the gasket is rubber, for what it's worth
Take a pair of Channel lock pliers and grab the round cast part right above where the red line connects and wriggle it and tug and it'll work the plate out. You're replacing them I presume? I'm in the middle of doing mine as we speak. If so, you'll need to order a 12" corrugated PTFE tube in 3/8" diameter for the feed pipe and get a foot of 5/16 submersible rubber hose and cut to 60mm length to go from the valve on the smaller black pipe to the other barbed fitting. Both can be obtained from Radium Engineering in Oregon. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
P.S. Also get new gaskets for the backing plates and o-rings for the push in lines. And a little secret; the o-rings on the lines cross to a Maserati part so you can get them cheaper via a Maserati dealer than from Ricambi. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Re O'Rings: I'd measure the old ones and source some Viton O'Rings the same size. They're pretty universal.
The inside of my tank was essentially totally clean...very few small bits of rubber to be found so I was fortunate although once I had the pump assemblies out, soon as I touched one of the rubber mounts, it fell apart. Oh, and the triangle shaped vibration pads on the bottoms of the baskets had pretty much fallen apart.
