I've been doing a fair amount of research on wheels for a 456GT. What follows here is what I have assembled, mostly from the Internet. I intend to look for new wheels, but wanted to post this information in case anyone has better data to update this.

I also wanted to assemble this into one thread to save others the trouble and perhaps to have one location for corrections, etc. Very little or none of this has been verified with physical measurements by me, but then again it's all off the internet so it must be true.

    Original wheel size:
    17 inch diameter wheels
    Center Bore: 67 mm
    5 Bolt, 108 mm spacing

    Fronts:
    8,5 inch width
    50 mm offset
    tire size: 255/45 ZR

    Rears:
    10 inch width
    24,6 mm offset
    285/45 ZR

Supposed widest wheel that will work (take this with a big bucket of salt, I have no way of verifying this!!):
    Fronts: 9 inches
    Rears: 11 inches

Other cars that use the same 5-bolt pattern and 108 mm spacing:

    Ferrari - 550, 360, 430
    Jaguar - X-type
    Volvo - various including 240, 740, 760, 780, 960, 850, C70, S70, V70, S90, V90

Please note that although there are various threads that state that 550 wheels are bolt on replacements for the 456, my conclusion is that this is only the case if you can/want to live with spacers or with offsets that were not originally intended for the 456. I for one will not buy wheels that require spacers (on grounds of safety and reliability), others of course will feel differently and that is an individual choice.

If anyone can provide pictures off of their original 456 rims or actual data to verify any of the information provided in this post, I would grealy appreciate it.

    Thanks.

Alberto, I am under the impression that the wheels of the 550 / 575 fit the 456 without any spacer.
Why are you saying the spacers are needed?

It may be that the 550 wheels fit without spacers, but they do definitely have different offsets.

This thread (www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8361&highlight=550+456+offset) indicates that 550 wheels are: 8.5" +43.65mm Front; 10.5" +32mm Rear. So, given 456 offsets of 50 mm front, 24.6 rear, using 550 wheels in the front, the wheels would be further torwards the fender side than the stock by a bit less then 7 mm and the rears would further away from the fender side than stock by 5.4 mm not much in either case, but not what was stock for the 456. I do not know first hand if they fit without spacers, but certainly 550 wheels have been put on 456 (I for one love the look of the stock 575 wheels on the 456). Note that the wrong offset could theoretically cause premature bearing issues. Not sure if 7 mm is enough to do that though. If spacers are required, it would be a deal killer for me, as I will not use spacers.

I love how the 456 looks with those wheels. Did the rears without spacers look too wierd or could you have gotten away without using spacers at the rear?

Yes everything fit fine, but the wheel did not look quite right in the fender well, so that is why I put the spacers on to move the wheels out...otherwise the wheels looks like a bid fitment job.

I also love the look of the 456 with the 575 wheels.
About the offset, pushing the front wheels outboard increases the cornering stability, so it is a good thing, while keeping the rear wheels inboard has no significant effect.

    575M ..
    Original wheel size:
    18 inch diameter wheels
Center Bore: 67 mm ?? presume the same, so centre badges just clip straight in
    5 Bolt, 108 mm spacing

    Fronts:
    8,5 inch width
43.65 mm offset - hence 6.35mm further out
    tire size: ?? ZR

    Rears:
    10.5 inch width
    32 mm offset - hence 7.4mm further in ??
    295/35 ZR

So sounds like 15mm spacers would be slightly too much and 10mm would do ?

Also I presume you need 575M bolts + 10mm extra length to fit on the rear ?
what about the front ones - are 575M bolts required ?
guess it may be better to state the required bolt lengths front & rear.

what about speedo error due to tyre size ?

Front tire sizes on 575Ms are 255/40 18 and 255/35 19, rears are, as stated, 295/35 18 and 305/30 19. The 19" optional wheels are the same width and offsets as the 18" wheels. The rear wheels are set slightly deep in the fender wells on 575Ms, and my car has 25 mm Type 2 spacers (10 bolts each, including stock lug bolts) to fill the wheelwells better. If you need spacers, I highly recommend the Hill Engineering Type 2 spacers available from Ricambi or directly from HE. The spacers have hardened inserts and are very well machined.

Oops, realise why its 15mm that is required - the rear 575M wheels are 0.5 inch wider, hence will be 6.25mm further in, 6.25+7.4 =13.65mm to get wheel at same distance from inside of wheel arch, hence 15mm would be a safer bet.

Here's what you need from Hill Engineering to fit 575M 18" wheels on a 456GT:

    WS015 Wheel Spacer 15mm
    360+15 Wheel Bolt 67mm
    181291 Wheel Bolt -360/430/550/575 52mm
    CS01 Chrome Saver Socket

Many Thanks to Paul and his team for sorting this for me.

Looks Superb - pics to come shortly.

Those look great and so does the car. Chris (Nippy) has a set with new tires on ferrariads for ~$4K. Good deal since the tires alone cost us proles half that.

Mezzanotte did you require new lug nuts on rears w/ the addition of the spacers?

Kosmo- When you go with Type 1 spacers, which are essentially spacers with five holes in them, you need wheel bolts longer by the same thickness as the spacers. When you use Type 2 spacers, the spacer bolts to the wheel hub with five separate bolts and the original bolts are fastened into hardened threads in the spacer. Generally, Type 2 spacers are 25 mm or thicker so there is sufficient thread for the original bolts to torque properly without bottoming out on the hub.

On all these spacers, the wheels (and spacers on Type 2) should be retorqued after the first ~100 miles of driving. Mine were retorqued two days ago.

Mr M- If you search the 348/355 thread, someone put an aftermarket TPMS system on his car that read pressure and tire temperature. Should be possible to fit it to your car.

Thanks, the color is Rosso Fiorano which is not a popular color on the 456. Most of them are blue, black or silver.
