So my car actually does have low oil pressure, as soon as I rev it after a cold start the pressure drops to 0 and I can start to hear the ticking of the lifters. We tried replacing the oil pump below the engine with no luck, any ideas of what is controlling the oil pump? I know there is two oil regulators in top of engine and below the valve cover, should I replace those?

    thanks in advance.

I dont know this engine but most oil pumps have a pressure setting valve on the pump itself, looking at the diagram it shows a filter seal which i assume goes between the engine block and the pump, if this was not fitted correctly , would it be pulling air into the pump. I dont see any pressure adjustment elsewhere on the diagram. With a zero pressure reading it is time to get it to a workshop before you wreck the engine

We checked the seal, it was clean. Car has 14k miles and I would assume if the pump wasn’t mounted properly, there would be oil seepage there which there wasn’t. It’s not a constant 0 pressure reading if it idles there is normal pressure but once I rev it, it goes to 0. Trying to get some advice on wherelse to look before I send to a shop as I am capable of replacing things if pointed in the right direction

I wonder if it's possible that it has a faulty sending unit? And if there is a way to measure it by attaching a gauge somewhere to the engine so that you can verify the reading on the dash is correct?

We did attach a pressure gauge and it’s definitely losing pressure, running out of ideas.

Sounds like a flow issue? Did you confirm no obstructions on the oil pickup screen?

Part number 100332 in 255176 on the diagrams.

Assume you replaced the oil filter / new oil when you changed the pump as well?

Correct oil level ( assuming dry sump ?). Is level dropping at same time as pressure- restricted returns ?

A restricted return would more likely cause a increase in pressure. I suspect blockage on the suction side (why pressure drops when rpm comes up)

A restricted return would give you less oil for the pump to suck on, it is not going to bring your oil pressure up.

I just came across this thread searching for something the other day and wonder if your problem might be similar:
