488 GTB 7500 rpm Rev Limiter

and its kinda strange that Ferrari could make such a launch issue failure but not impossible of course

 

To be honest with you, I don't care if the limiter is at 7500 rpm. It's just a number. We have brain washed ourselves about higher rpms. Does it make any difference? As long as the car performs right, sounds right and handles right..who cares about rpm? My 2 cents.

i was soppused to test drive a demo last week but could not because of the gearbox software issue. it seems to work now though. the dealer is in the process of rescheduling my test drive.

The 488 delivers his peak of power (670 hp) at 8000 rpm. So the engine should revs up to this

Are you sure? From what I gather, the limited torque is across the rpm band, not at the top end, so it should indeed deliver peak power, just not maximum torque/hp across the rpm range.

 

Low to mid end torque is limited in the lower gears. Not the output at 8000 rpm. You should always see full power and tq at 8000rpm assuming lack of traction is not being compensated for based on worn tires, cold streets, wet ... Etc.

 

Ferrari is playing around with the torque depending on the situation. They decrease it at times to simulate a NA engine. They are giving peak torque in top gear to get the max speed. I believe it was in Evo.

You cannot equate torque vs rpm with this engine and a NA engine. There's too much computer gimmickry going on.

 

They are playing with the TORQUE in the low to mid range to simulate a NA motor that makes peak power at max RPM.

your statement that I previously quoted indicates that at 8000 rpm you will not see max HP at max rpm. You statement that I just quoted states that the mid range torque is limited which is correct .....

I stand by what I said...You will see max HP at max RPM in all gears. Mid range may not be so but at 8000 you will....

 

The torque is limited via the control of the boost pressure. Nothing to do with the RPM.

 

Please let me add: the torque is limited in the lower gears at lower rpm via the control of the boost pressure. At the maximum engine speed there are always 670hp available, in all gears.

Yes but limiting the Rpm Gear shifting to 7500 rpm on demo cars has distanced many would be buyers

 

In the video posted elsewhere you see the rev counter going to 8K (a touch beyond, in fact) in third and later in the video there is a graph showing the different torque curves across the gears and they all go to 8K.
