And if it were it would be north of $200k. What else are you buying for that money these days?

that is a very nice looking car. I think a good bit of car for the money. you don't see 944 turbos in that shape often!!

the 944 was seen as a competitor to the C4 Corvette, Supra, 300ZX, etc...in other words, a disposable performance car. most were driven into the ground or converted into race cars....so it's no surprise that the ones that survived in pristine condition would be worth a lot (relatively speaking).

That's insane. Not only is it not even a Turbo S car, 86's were first year turbos with some head issues. I had a Turbo S and there's a world of difference between those and a normal turbo.

Saw this the other day on their website and was wondering what their ask was....That thing is awesome!! But man, $45,9 is a lot of coin, BUT as others have mentioned vintage 911's in that condition are far more.

Jeez! That is a lot of $$$$$ for that car! Crazy times! There was a time you'd have to pay someone to take that car!

Hard to justify that price when there is this for sale for about half that amount (and is lower mileage)

All that said, I'm happy to see nice 944s commanding decent prices. They're good cars that are all-too-often neglected by POs.

I agree. I'm the OP of this thread and I've owned one of these ('88 944S) These are great cars. I just don't believe the 944 has the cache' or collectability to ride the coat-tails of the 1980's 911/930 current price appreciation (bubble)

    IMHO

It is certainly above market value, but I can see nice 944's being worth a pretty penny in the future.

Proof that the dealership referenced in the first post is smoking crack. Check this auction for a relatively low mileage Turbo S - the pinnacle of 944 development:

I'm guessing 20k or less. If it goes for 35-40k, then maybe I'll believe someone will pony up 45k for a 20,000 mile '86 turbo but I don't see it. There's a world of difference between a Turbo S and Turbo in 944 land. And the Turbo S will be the first to become collectible if 944s head that way.

What argument is this auction of a 59k mile modded Turbo with a replaced turbo, limited description, least desirable color, and six days left to go supposed to support?

A Turbo S has a different engine, transmission, suspension and brakes compared to a stock turbo and generally command a 50% premium over such. As I stated, we'll see where the bidding ends up but the fact reserve is met at 13k leads me to believe the owner isn't looking for much more. I haven't been in the market since I sold mine but just a few years ago a 1% condition Turbo S fetched low 20s.

The car advertised on eBay is a used car with no collector potential. I don't even see it listed to be an S. Not saying they will get $45k for the MG listed car but definitely two different caliber of cars.

Correct. Also, I spoke with the [e-Bay] seller. The replacement turbine is from another Porsche. No affiliation, BTW.

Only time will tell if it sells for the asking price. It is super clean, looks brand new and super low mileage. The 944 has been underrated for awhile and getting harder to find clean/low mile examples.

You can get a real nice 944 turbo s for 20k. So this is worth a lot less....
