I was reading about the 3 rollover valves on the top of the gas tank, both my fuel pumps have been rebuilt... I'm wondering should I as preventive maintenance fix or replace the rollover valves? over 85k miles on my car Any advice would be greatly appreciated. As always Thanks !
I just redid my whole tank and decided to do them too. I think they were partially responsible for the fuel odour as well upon a full tank refuel.
Dave is it big job ? I believe Brian Crall said the tank had to be removed if so how long to remove fix replace ... In a shop environment ? Did you do yours ? Thanks I
Bill see my comment about Brian in this thread https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/f550-fuel-odor-leak.348118/#post-141044100
Bill, I'd go ahead & buy the parts now and hold them until the time comes. No telling if/when they might become NLA....... I'm a big believer in buying spares and squirreling them away until I need them; my wife is not such a believer and is constantly after me about "all that junk out in the garage" Also, as Dave indicated, it's not a job for the faint of heart. Blood will be shed......
Good idea John, do you happen to have a list ....maybe part #s ? if you do please let me know and I'll get em
forgot to say John if Blood will be shed it will not be mine, you know I never work on my car !.....poor techs
Bill I know you have a great relationship with your techs, so just tell them you'll want to replace the rollover valves and gaskets at some point in the future and have them buy all the parts they'll need, and resell them to you. As Dave pointed out, he got away with replacing only the gaskets, but if I were you, I'd get the valves too. In my case, both my gaskets and valves were shot. If you don't need the valves, but they go NLA, you'll double or triple your investment reselling them to someone who's desperate......
Hi John, I tried to find the parts to today at Ricambi since I was not too sure about everything I needed I decided just to send them an email asking to let me know everything I need to replace rollover valves and gaskets. Hopefully they will get back to me with all that information. I appreciate your help and advice.
The biggest problem with that job is getting rid of the fuel smell once you have it. As Ferrari fuel tanks go getting it in and out is easy. The tank is perfectly shaped to slide out the hole that is the trunk opening. The hard part is every piece of fuel tank insulation and sound insulation, every piece of soft material will need to be stripped out and replaced or the smell will never go away. That is the hard part and what gives me fits and one good reason to do the job preemptively.
Guys. Does anyone know a source for anti-rollover valves? My indie was going to replace the gaskets (which we have) and is concerned that a valve may break during removal and they are apparently not currently available? I believe I provided him with a replacement for the center valve. Just need the two side valves. Are these unique to the 550...or are they shared with other vehicle platforms also?
