Thank you for posting this. I assume WSR 550's were never sold in the US due to each coming equipped with a roll cage. I would think this would be the WSR 550's would be the 550 to own just due to its rarity and the key upgrades over a standard 550.

Why are roll cages not permitted in the US?

WSRs were sold in the US, just without the roll bar and 4 point harness.

The reason roll bars are illegal here is that without a helmet, your head contacting the roll bar in an accident can leave a roll bar shaped indentation in your skull.

I do not think they are permitted on new cars in the US. You can add them in after the fact though.

Thanks, Terry! Your knowledge is always appreciated.

Any idea how many WSR's were sold in the US?

Thanks, Terry, that's very interesting. It's rather ironic that a safety device is banned on safety grounds, but it does seem to make a certain amount of sense.

I am glad I just have a 550, WSR or not... With a few small tricks, I have the worlds fastest 550 and can blow by all these WSR cars a quiet evening on the Autobahn. :)

I would say your 550 is just as fast as a WSR. Technically, it is. However, Ferrari have prior on tweaking press and test cars. So maybe the WSR premium is justified. Who knows..until someone does a rolling road on each.

No difference in performance between a WSR and a standard 550, except maybe the real one that broke the records.

Indeed. And am I right in saying that all the WSR bits were on the options list for a 550 anyway, so there really is nothing very special about the WSR replicas apart from a badge or two?

Sure, except you can be fairly sure that Ferrari paid special attention to a media starring WSR, compared to a regular 550. That's what I meant..

John- Affirmative, sort of like a 50th anniversary Corvette.
