Curious if anyone on here has the "ultimate late 90's Italian pairing" at home with red matching 550 and a Ducati 916? Both machines at the peak of awesome analog-ness from Italy. This BaT auction today for a museum quality 3k mile 1997 Ducati 916 is without a doubt one of the sexiest bikes of all time. For anyone curious the final hammer on the Ducati was $23,250. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1997-ducati-916-3/
I have a lot of 916 bikes - 916SPS, 916 Corsa (Fast by Ferracci 1996 team bike and winner of two rounds with Alessandro Gramigni), and a bunch of others. And then for many years I had the last 550 Maranello delivered to the US - Christmas Day 2001. I'll find some pics... My 550 has been at Roselli’s in San Jose a shocking 14 weeks this upcoming Thursday. Eventually I’ll get a photo with both Italians next to each other.
That looks like a 2002 748 base? I didn't even know they still came with the three spoke Brembos then but it looks like they must have.
Correct. 2002 748BP. The year with the different/cooler(to me) fairing style shared by the 998 in 2002 before the design changed.
Image Unavailable, Please Login Helga, I had a 00 yellow 748 Mono with a Termignoni C/F slip on can, with a FbF chip. Lots of fun. Years ago I would street race organ-donor bikes until the sun was about to rise. Saw a young guy stand on the tank of a Duc while it was in neutral.
I stupidly sold my 1995 900ss/sp to a buddy and I’m probably going to sell my 456 soon too. So, I did have a nice pairing, just not at the same time lol. But, you’re right about the 916, it is to me the ultimate street bike of all time. And with that I include the 748 also, from which the 916 was born. It was an instant icon, a piece of art standing still and in motion, and a total domination on the race track for a decade. The badassness of the 550 could possibly be debated but in the world of bikes, the 916 was extremely significant and why the hell don’t I own one now while I still can!

@MRY are you in an industrial condo for your car/bike space or a hangar? I have way too many vehicles and was actually looking at one industrial condo in the Santa Cruz area so I could possibly "consolidate". I had also tried to see if there were any hangar's out at the old bonny dune airport (closer to me near Scotts Valley) but struck out.
No, I have a private building. There may be some condos by Monterey airport that may be available, but it’s probably a hike for you from Santa Cruz. Airport hangars are pretty good if you can find one, but I also lucked out. There was one that came up for sale recently but it was a pretty penny, so I passed. Light industrial space is really hard to come by these days around here.! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This trio complements each other quite well, but not a pure Italian vibe. It will have to do. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I also have a GS 1200 Adventure, it’s a great step down from the 900 Superleggera. They’re fantastic bikes Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
