Yes, I absolutely love the ride of the 512 TR. I could drive for hours and I too find it not too stiff (or even harsh). To me the suspension is just stiffer than that of my 575M (what I like).

Folks - anybody been burnt buying 575 19inch modulars on here. Good and bad experiences welcome please.

 

Sold for £72,800 including commission. Seems rather inexpensive for a great looking car with those seats, low recorded kms and the kudos that there is something unique about it.

The car has a very „interesting" assembly number for a pre production car: 59628
My 575M is from 2005 and has assembly number 58091

Sounds a bit strange…

PS: Not sure if I would like to have a pre production car… I prefer the later cars of the production where they have fixed the known issues.

 

Taz's master list suggests this might actually be the first 575 since he has 123765 listed as the 2nd - apart from the assembly no anomaly

I don’t doubt it is the first 575M. I just find it strange that the car with a very early S/N has a very late A/N. The A/N is assigned when the car is being produced. So how can this car have a later A/N than my car that was produced about 4 years later?

Yes I watched the event live on YouTube and also thought that it was surprisingly low considering some of the prices other less worthy cars were commanding. It was a disappointment overall in that case.

There's clearly something odd about that assembly number:59628.

RM Sotheby's have a full time research team but not much in the way of a detail made it into the auction listing. e.g. at what point did the factory sell the car: when built (in late 2001?) or perhaps it was sold 'as new' in 2005.

I'm not actually sure when assembly numbers are assigned but the inference is that chassis' may be prepared batches and numbered sequentially (one would hope!) upon which they may be stored for a period of time before being issued to the production line (quite often in a different order) and at that point, an assembly number is assigned.

59628 would appear to be a circa 2005 assembly number but if you compare the photographs of the two plaques (the subject car and my own car 58591 built in Q1-05), you will see that although just over one thousand numbers separates them, there appears to have been a font change which only adds to the mystery...

Whatever the early history, it is still a lovely car from what I can see but it would certainly be interesting to know the full back story such as why a pre-production car was ultimately sold without obviously having been used much (for development testing purposes or as a demonstrator/press car). Perhaps the new owner will surface on here and we'll learn something in due course.

Perhaps this car was used at the factory to test upgrades up to and including 2005 when they introduced the SuperAmerica?

 

This 575 has the front chromed grille that I guess does not belong to any early 575. If I am not mistaken it appeared from 2004?

 

Good point. This would explain the high assembly number.

Clyde’s assumption that the car was used to test all upgrades is also an interesting theory. But then the A/N should still be much lower because they assign the A/N when the car is being produced. Except they reassigned a new A/N after all upgrades have been completed and they thought it is a new car now. Sounds still a bit strange…

I believe you told me the red F1 car that sold at RM was the one featured in the launch publicity material and did the motor show tours ?

These brochures are available on Ebay now and are cheap, considering what has happened to "classic" ferrari promotional literature I suggest 575M owners buy them now.

It's Silver on Blue (3 pedal) sister car was for sale with DK around this time last year, It ws the first Maranello I looked at buying.

On value, I think the buyer at RM did well, so congratulations to them and lets hope they enjoy the car and sign up here.

 

Terry, great to read your posts again. Your knowledge of the 575 and your previous posts was the driving force behind my purchase. I notice it is not on your list, s/n A, 129473, 46555 e/w FHP and manual transmission. Thanks to your posts I have had a great summer driving the sh*t out of her.

 

Congratulations. As Terry said pictures would be appreciated.
