I have read posts lately deriding my comments of the straight line speed of a Ferrari 575M Maranello compared to various other supercars. The 575M is a most underated supercar because it looks like a touring car, it is, a fast one.

If you think you can drive in a straight line with your foot to the floor quicker than 182mph over 1.25 miles, well done, post the details otherwise your comments are just hot air vibrations.

When I said very few cars are quicker in a straight line over 1.25 miles I was telling what is true, including the Lamborgini. If its quicker its either tuned, or a race/track type car, an F40 after all is not a Touring car, no more than a Porker that has been chipped. Take the chip out and its near evens.

There will obviously be one that is quicker than a 575M but few, very very few, my statement that a 575M is one of the fastest touring cars in a straight line stands. I will lick the path clean from here to where YOU live if you can prove I'm wrong.

It's all that pork curry he eats - you need something to cleanse the pallet.

550/575 is a quick motor though.

stevef; Thanks for that, thats called the 'Bedord Van Door Syndrom'

One scrap yard says it wants £50 for a Bedford van door, the buyer says, "The other scrapyard only wants £25 for one", The scrap merchant says "Well buy it there then" the buyer says, "I can't they haven't got one" The scrap man says "Ours are only £25 when we haven't got one"
    :p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p That cheered me up.

Would love to have a drive in your very pretty 12 in the rear, which you probably wouldn't have offered if I had been standing next to you. Next time maybe.

Well seeing as your 575 got whooped by a new M5 that day I'm sure there are lot's of other cars out there quicker. Also as your first post on F-chat shows the handling is not the best either. Just enjoy the car for what it is.

    GT2 is faster also

He can't argue that it's not a tourer as GT stands for "Grand Tourer". That's at least 4 vehicles we've named now.

Tongue at the ready Dave? :)

GrahamS; this is my point, nobody has the facts, betting is not fact, it could also be that it is slower, if you know where we can get such details, please post them, I'm not ready to start licking yet. :p:p:p:p

Hi david ... now i don't wish to start WWIII, and i post this with all due respect, but WHY do you guys harp on and on about your cars straight line speed ?
On this forum, there is a broad range of owners with varying levels of income and subsequently this is reflected in the cars owned. You rich guys are able to go down the shops and simply buy something which is faster than your neighbour, nip to bruntlinthorpe and simply let the beast loose.
In my opinion, it is the twisty bits that sort the men from the boys. This is where the levels of personal ability are proven.
As i have mentioned previously, our dog could drive anything fast in a straight line.
Sorry, but just my two penneth.
    cheers, d

    Ferrari 575 - 0-62mph - 4.2 seconds (taken from www.ferrari.co.uk)
    Lambo Merci - 0-62mph - 3.8 Seconds (taken from www.lamborghini.co.uk)

So the 575 has got some ground to make up and im pretty sure the arodynamics on the Lambo are far superior !

Sure the Merci driver on that day did his all ?

Sprout; exactly my point, in a straight line I piddled all over you with your low flying bomber super tuned GT2, :p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p that will upset him, it was only around the corners you got me, That is my point, straight line speed.

I am either stupid or speaking chinese here. Is nobody understanding my point. Post a superfast GT2 like 10 mph faster in bog standard format and we will start talking about you having 1, otherwise, Trubo's and GT2 are about even -within 1 or 2 mph similar with the 575M and that is proven, not hot air - there.

Now, the M5 was not running at the same pace its speed was below 160mph and that why he is not on the top 20 scoreboard. Am I thick or what?

Yes its quick, but I have explained the reason for its brave attempt, it was close but no banana, I was disadvantaged with crap fuel. 95ron Sainsbury's rubbish or worse. 10 mph off pace so Get Real boys. It was equal to 155mph and then dropped away. It is good but not better - even if deregulated.

Dave is still winning 4-0 :p:p:p:p:p:p try again my little whippets.

    cheers, d

360stimo; the point is that my figures come from the actual times posted by the cars on the day over 1.25 miles not 150 yards. If you ask F308MAN he will tell you his dog can drive fast in a straight line but now we have a Lambo Driver driving a chipped Lambo who can't drive as fast as a dog - bowow.

Perhaps you have never seen a car start slower and pass the other as it picks up speed. Ask Chaa he left me for dead on the line and then I went past him. Thats it, a 355 is quicker then - I think.

I Think, I bet, I think, its not fact, can anyone post facts and not fiction please, I am asking a sensible question.
