I recently completed my fourth annual service at a local, independent shop. I've been very happy with them and, as we no longer have a Ferrari specialist in Oklahoma, it's been way more convenient than driving down to Dallas and leaving the car at Boardwalk or Norwood and flying back to get her. But I'm contemplating that major in a year and thinking of giving my indy a shot. Apart from the serpentine belt and the various fluid and filter changes (including the F1) is there anything else on the list that's unusual ...tensioners, etc....that ought to be routinely addressed "while they're in there"? I'd be sourcing the parts from Ricambi or Scuderia and I'd like to get an idea of what I'm in for. Is there any reason to think that a major would be too much for a competent independent to take on?

I would guess generally it's probably fine. Have they done major services on 550s or 456s or other V-12 Ferraris? If so, then I wouldn't worry too much. If it's their first one, I might think twice.

Go to the manual, there should be a chart of service required at mileage intervals. It will tell you everything you want to know.

Affirmative, I would have them put on new Hill Engineering tensioners during the cambelt change. Ricambi carries them.

If they have not done a V12 Ferrari timing belt, cam timing, and F1 service (needs a computer), I would not feel too good about them. The 612 front end is pretty difficult to disassemble.

Transport is so cheap right now, can't you use a service? I'll bet you could get two way for $1,000 to Dallas
