    Thanks Scott.

It's almost 4 years now since Labor closed the last unlimited speed section. :(
This was my last run in it -

    Cheers Al

I thought they had reverted back to open speed away from the cities?

    No, worse luck.

We used to enjoy open speed limits throughout the NT until Labor closed them all. The CLP got back in & managed to claw back a 300Km long section of open speed limit north of Alice Springs but were defeated by labor 4 years ago & the open speed section was shutdown. Labor was just voted in for another 4 years so I don't think the NT will see open speed limits ever again. :(

A couple of small country towns more likely:D.

140 kph limit now I think you'll find.

Couldn't really call them cities. :)
130 kph is the most we have now & only on some roads - it's not even quick enough to get a 400i auto to change from 2nd to 3rd under full noise. :(

Oh shame... NT is the only state I haven’t driven my 308! Don’t think I would have enough fuel to get from Cammoweal to Barkly Station on such lovely bowling ball roads; amazes me that with the weather extremes and road trains NT can build perfect roads when Qld can’t even build a decent suburban road to last more than a year...

Or a runway built for B-52's that you can land a civvie plane on - the old terminal was a cracker, bullet holes and all.

And if you really want to see what the airport is for I highly recommend going while Pitch Black is on. Bring a chair and a beer, grab a feed from the cricket club BBQ on Amy Johnson drive at the fence beyond the threshold and hang on!

...................and it's the the 'Smoke' that's changed severely in the 32 odd years that I've been living here and 40ish years since I first came here.
It's 'grown up' in not the most wonderful of ways .
You wouldn't have been here in the late '70's when it was burgeoning from frontier outback/fishing/escape town for the rich and famous/politicians/nasties and anything inbetween.
You;d never have had experience of the 'Barbary Coast' pubs,The Oceanic,The Barrier Reef and The Royal with others adding to the, then, rich attraction of the joint.
It certainly wasn't the 'sanitised ' version of what it is now.
Same goes for Port Douglas, once upon a time ...3 great restaurants ,1 brilliant pie shop and 2 fantastic pubs.....now....plastic.

Yeah we lived in Trinity Beach in the late 80s trying to get my first flying job...Jules and I did door to door selling rainbow vacuum cleaners to pay the bills. Every time someone let you in to give them a speel they got a free knife set. I think I gave away around 700 knife sets , drank plenty of beer and made a lot of friends before rainbow said see you later... Who the Fuch in their right mind would pay $2400 for a vacuum cleaner when you could buy a really good one for 30 bucks in the 80s.....:)

Haha I remember the wild days of the ‘Japanese’ boom in the 80s - my practice had an office in Cairns, spent a few days every 2nd month up there...
