Shortly, you will have the second race in your town. I would like some suggestions as to what I should do when the cars are not moving. 12 cylinders or walk
Not sure about the reference to 'second race" but if you like live music, there are plenty of venues/bars downtown along 6th street. Rainey St for outdoor eating (banger's sausage house and beer garden in particular) or Freddies on first street or Shady Grove on Barton Springs Road. If you want BBQ and live music, it's The Saltlick in Driftwood -about 20 minutes west of downtown. The W hotel for a more refined evening. The whole town is built around being outside. If you have something in particular in mind, we can probably help. If the second race (3rd actually) revolves around F1 COTA, they close off part of downtown for Fanfest. Music, race-oriented displays, driving simulators, etc.
Ditto on the 6th street suggestion. East of Congress ave is typically the college age crowd, west of Congress ave is typically the older (30+) crowd. A lot of restaurants in the downtown area, check out the 'Austin Monthly' Or 'Austin Chronicle' magazine web sites. If you have a car, you are on the boundary of the Texas hill country, so there are some nice driving roads if you have the time.
Austin actually does go south of the river, you know. Just drop by the house Bart, we will show you around!!!
