I plan to do a coolant change myself when I get the chance in the next week or so. Last time I did one I had to get to the coolant bleed valve from the interior engine access hatch behind the seats, but wondering if I can access this from underneath the car instead?

Grateful if anyone has any experience. Thanks.

I use an airlift so I don't have to bleed from the thermostat but if you're talking about the bleed screw on top of the thermostat then you definitely can't get to that from underneath the car.

You could fashion up some universal joints and extensions and get to it from the top though if you don't want to go from the access hole.

I also use a vacuum fill system; so much easier. However, don't you still need to bleed if you open up the system between the thermostat and the block? I don't think a vacuum fill will draw coolant past a closed thermostat.

I drained my coolant system at the block plug, radiators, and coolant hoses at the base of the firewall , and had no issues with the refill.

Did that too. Used a vacuum system to refill and still had some air pocket :( So used the bleeder screw...

To answer OP, you can easily access the bleed screw from the top with an extension. It’s a straight shoot, I used a mirror to help find it. And I’m talking on a Modena. Pretty sure it’s more difficult on a Spider :(

Makes no difference. It goes the other way.

You need to examine your method. I have been using vacuum fill systems since they came out and that should not happen.

Can access the bleed screw from the top on a Spider as well. 1/4" drive ratchet and a few extensions. BUT, use an airlift as already suggested.
