I've done about ca. 4500km.....my first set ever......my FF also had them and I had out 5000km on those.....my time experience is limited - sorry
Thanks for recommendation f12kid. I also have the P0's and I am not in love with them. I drove the f12 at fiorano and the car felt more planted on exit than mine does. I wonder if they are running on the MSS. How about road noise bw the 2? I am using mine as a daily driver so it is a consideration.
It will be interesting is to compare the current Michelin Pilot Sport with the new Pilot Sport 4 to see if they are better still on the F12. As my car only has 400 miles I'll have to rely on you guys to wear your current tyres out first, which from what I'm reading shouldn't be too long. ;-)
My goodness did you wear the Pirelli's P0 so fast with normal driving? I was thinking if that's the case may be it could have something to do with the fact that in Switzerland you have many mountain roads.
I publish some more pictures with details of my F12 after the recent conclusion of a paint correction, wrapping and ceramic coating application. Beautiful photos! Thanks for sharing! On tires, I've found the MPSS to be my preference in its category. Certainly an even more sport oriented tire like the Cup or the Corsa/ Trofeo from Pirelli would be better when roads are warm and dry. However, they are constantly improving tire technology. I would also like to try the new Michelin Pilot Sport 4, but for now I would believe them that they have bridged the gap between the MPSS and the Cup 2 while retaining very good wet performance- basically a 2.5-3 season street performance tire. As to Pirelli tires, I generally prefer Michelin's tires. I think some of this is how they are engineered to "feel"- I think the manufacturers do this as a way to differentiate products. Just like with TVs- for example, Sony has a slightly more orange red, some like this, some don't. Its not that Sony has bad engineering, its just what they do. So my experience with these tires is such that I think Pirelli usually feel like they are riding over the road, while Michelin feel like they are digging into the road. This is something I prefer. However, I have some exceptions, I loved the Corsa tires on my former Scuderia. I also love the Sottozero winter performance tires I've been using on my daily car (a BMW). And that car came with P Zero run flat tires- which I can't believe I am saying this- they are actually pretty good! I am sensitive to wheel balance/ tires out of round, and I've found Michelin is the most consistent at making tires with as little road force issues as possible. Pirelli is actually no terrible, but not as consistent. So when I can, I order Michelin. But I've learned not to write off Pirelli or anyone else. I hope this helps the discussion.
Jerry, thank you for sharing all your knowledge and experience on tires and despite of not being a great fan of the Pirelli's I have to admit in my short experience with the F12, that the behavior of the P0's is quite good in our type of tarmac and weather temperature. I had the MPSS in a California and I really liked them because as you said using the right words, they seem to dig on the road and I also felt they were much more smother than the previous Bridgestone. I had an Alfa Romeo on the beginning of the 80's and I remember that I started by using Michelin tires and didn't like them at all and when they wear and I changed to the Pirelli, the car felt so good and the difference was like night and day. That's just to say that Michelin has made a fantastic improvement through the years and on the type of tires we are talking about here they presently they seem to be the leaders. When I finish to wear the Pirelli's what might happen next 8th July during the Ferrari 70th anniversary at Estoril racing circuit, I'll make sure I'll have a set of Michelin's already ordered.
Justin, I took the pictures because when the car was in the lifter was the opportunity to find out how it looks underneath.
I wholly support your wearing out your tires as fast as possible! Have fun at the 70 Anni ! WOW! Yes, I have learned that these companies will keep improving and one day we could be saying that Michelin used to be amazing but now many prefer Pirelli. And Im sure there are people who prefer the Pirellis.
What a splendid drive! By the way, did you encounter the problem of lots of flying and hopping insects being splattered against the winshield and front end of the car at this time of the year when driving through the lovely countryside? It's so difficult to clean those beetle juice afterward, especially from the radiator area.
Could not agree with you more, especially on the balancing issue.....I definitely find the MPSS to be smoother than P0's Very much looking forward to MPS4's.....
Bugs and insects splattered against the windshield and front are the biggest enemy we have in our climate and after a journey like the one I've described and specially when you travel at high speed, the car is covered with them. Normally I wash the car myself and I like to do it, but after such a trip with bugs splattered everywhere, because they are so difficult to remove, specially from the radiator and areas of difficult access, after I arrived I took the car to my detailer for a complete wash and cleaning which they do professionally using foaming equipment and other tools that I don't have at my disposal and which makes a big difference on the final result. Because of this problem with bugs and insects I've tried before many different wiper fluids brands and since the middle of last year I started using the Sonax clear view and I'm satisfied with the efficiency it has removing bugs and incrustations from the windscreen.
Thanks for the infos. I have just gotten back inside the house after more than an hour of elbow-greasing off all that dried and hardended bug mess accumulated after 1400 miles of high speed driving on open highway through the countryside. Definitely no fun. Did you wrap your windshield with heat-reducing clear film as well?
In the front of the car everything is wrapped except the windshield. The detailer has suggested that option you referred but I didn't do it. The Sonax clear view fluid worked pretty well for maintaining the windshield acceptable during my last trip and what I did as well everyday at the end of the journey, was a fast 2 minutes cleaning of the windshield with the Chemical Guys quick wipe liquid I normally use to maintain the car paint in between washes.
I carry simple blue windex in the boot along with a cloth ;-) For windshield I learned from the gents on the FGT forum about the best film for windscreen ; Bray, believe it's made in the US.....
Recently I took this picture and looking at it afterwards, I realized that the F12 Italian heritage is very well represented on the background by having this kind of modern version of the Pizza tower. By seeing the water so near for a moment I thought what would happen if the F12 was an amphibious car like the ones we see in 007 movies and we both would go for a swim ? apparently the idea isn't science-fiction because I discovered there is an amphibious wooden Ferrari F50 which you can see in the picture in a Venice canal driven by her Gondolero.
