    Hi Everyone,

I'm hoping that some knowledgeable Ferrari fan can give me some pointers. Thanks in advance!

    I have a 1978 308.

I am trying to extract the pins that retain the distributer drive to the back of the camshafts.

I tried driving them out with a punch but they didn't want to move. So I paused to consider options and ask for help and advice.

    I have torches - yikes.
    20 ton press.
lots of little ball joint mini presses.
Pretty sure I have an oven at home.
    and some other stuff

I would have put it in the press but I'd have to come up with the correct size of pin drive which might be a pain.

The reason I'm doing this is because I bought some core cams and had Web Cams make them a bit hotter. The cores did not come with the distributer drives so I am transferring them over from my originals.

    Thanks again for any assistance!

You will want to cut a V slot in a block of 4x4 wood, long enough to rest the cam shaft into the V so it does not twist while supporting the pounding pressure. Drill a 1/2 inch hole into the wood block at the location where the pin is so it has a place to fall into.

Position the camshaft in the V, with the pin facing up. Use a new punch with the appropriate size, and pound away. Heating it with a heat gun may help. I had to drill one out, once.

Thanks for your help and advice Yelcab.

I did get them out yesterday.
It is just a tight interference fit. I was worried about damaging the journals of the hollow cam.
I had V blocks to support the cam well. After some attempts with a punch I used a press to push them out a bit then finished them with the punch.
I read on another post here that the spline drives were a solid material in the cam. And that it's an interference fit in to the cam.
I needed to use a puller to get them out of the cams.
    It all worked out.
You do need to drive them out in a certain direction.
On one side where the dowel pin goes through there is a hexagon shape instead of the hole to secure the dowel. Interesting.
