So, I am digging into my alarm siren issue. Most of the threads on this matter are pretty old. I have had zero luck finding batteries. NiCd is no longer produced and used. All has gone to Li or Mh. Cannot charge Li with Cd tech. You can use Mh as substitute for Cd, with less than desirable results, but it will work for our purposes, mainly no light on the center vent when driving. I have searched and searched and searched, with the only option being to solder a 3 cell telephone NiMh onto the board. Not what I want to do.

Of Course I can buy a new one from FNA - my cost $515 and I am ok with that - not really when the GM Vette version works for $65, but everything is backordered or NLA. The biggest problem with the FNA piece besides outrageous Ferrari tax, is the fact they are still NiCd and have have been on the shelf for awhile and I will have the same problem sooner than later. I may have the ability to get some batteries made. Any thoughts on the viability of that product if I invest in a large order? I make my Spider seat handles, everyone wants them and I have sold out, but then I find I have two more, people want and then crickets - No payment and no response. I have a chance at 4 more sets, before NLA/final on the handles and afraid to invest, so as to not be stuck with what people want, but will not buy. Probably what Bosch is thinking by not making alarm sirens right now.??

Thoughts, Ideas, help? It is the only part my 1999 Gated 8400 mile Museum quality 1 of None 355B needs to be complete. Thank you.

Perhaps not a good idea. Shipping batteries can be a pain sometimes because of all the air safety regulations.

Have you read this thread? According to Miroljub, NiMH batteries are an equivalent.

Not worth fixing. Charging circuit is usually dead. Wait until you can get a new one or just get used to the little red light.

I have not been heartless enough to waste someones money on fixing one or to suggest replacing one in a long time. Its a junk system that never should have been put in the cars.

I used to fix the sirens but had a very high failure rate because they were designed to be expendable. The sell by date on all of them was a long time ago.

I know you know your stuff - hell, you are “the guy.”

They are expendable for sure. I just want my one car to be as it should, money has not been the object, but it looks as if it would be $500 plus every 3-4 years due to siren battery issue. There has to be a way to engineer around it or update it?

I wish I could get with a Bosch rep to walk it back into RD. I could maybe get my World Pac rep to get me in touch with “back door” at Bosch.

I hate to be beaten by the car and the manufacturer. Sigh...

Image Unavailable, Please Login Is the siren you have the early style with the stacked button cells and a red cover with a pigtail or with the green ones that are soldered directly to the circuit board? If it is the one with the pigtail I repaired mine with the rechargeable NiMH battery shown above. It is made of a bundle of AAA sized cells but it fits perfectly where the old battery was located and has been working correctly. I had to cut off the connector it came with and solder on the one from the old battery but this battery was only $10 off eBay.

I have the button style, version 1.1.... but circuit board damaged by leaking batteries pretty badly. Going to try and solder new battery on, but may not work due to damage. This was already a replacement siren as it has the adapter wire for the later style plug, which is a little confusing. Late production 1999 2 owner car with tons of service records. Has been replaced in past. More than once, sigh....

I was thinking along the same lines as 05Elise. I'm betting a local college EE lab could spit out a harness that could give you the same voltages in a modern battery pack. After all it's just electron flow, the source really doesn't matter. $200 in some grad student's pocket for a couple hours of soldering could make you both F-chat heroes!
