All Season Tires

Hi Robert, I’m curious to understand why you are planning to use an all season tyres on a high performance car? The weather envelope to justify them on an F12 is going to be very narrow indeed. Most of the time, they simply combine the sub-optimal aspects of dedicated summer or winter tyres without giving you the advantages of the summer or winter tyres.

To answer your question, I wouldn’t expect that sizing up to a 40 sidewall would be a problem but there are more knowledgeable tyre experts on here who will chime in shortly…

 

245/40R20 will fit fine. They will need the correct rear size. Either 275/40R20 or 315/35R20 is an option.

If you go from 245 35 r20 to 245 40 r20 your odometer will read 65 mph but you will actually be going 67.34 mph.

are these the new Michelin All Season 4? i started a thread earlier about them. they come standard on corvette c8 and have pretty good reviews so far.

Doesn't matter. It is off more than that from the factory. It will simply read more accurately.

Actually that would be the case with my Lexus LS as it consistently reads 2 to 3 mph below actual. However, both of my 612 and FF read spot on accurate.

At any rate, the switch to that size tire will increase actual speed over indicated speed by 2.34 mph at accurate read 65 mph.

 

My FF under-reads with the stock setup but is almost correct with my slightly larger 265/35/20 and 315/30/21 tyres fitted. I have to remind myself that there’s no error margin when I’m over the speed limit!

 

Actually this does remind me that I just put on my snow tires and they are a size smaller than the summer ones.

 

I have never seen an FF or Lusso read correct. Also, by EU law, a car must read above and no less than 3 kph.

Maybe the US spec is a little different. Many towns in my area have these solar powered speed radar signs that display your speed. One street in a neighboring town has 2 of these on the same street getting cars going both ways. I regularly go past these and both the 612 and FF read exactly. The Lexus is always under the indicated speed. I should try it with my wife's Panamera and my Harley.

That is interesting about the EU law. I didn't know about it and we always use a rental or lease car when we're in Europe.

 

I use full winters on mine, Pirelli Sottozero. Same size as summer tyres. I have a full set of wheels so change the whole thing for 2 or 3 months each year. I'd maybe consider selling your all seasons on ebay and just going full winter.

I have the standard wheels for winter and the diamond cut ones for summer. The look of the car is so different on each set which is actually nice and makes change.
