Exactly! Has anybody counted the 288 GTO, F40 that burns to the ashes? If so, than he has many pages!

Agreed, but the recent frequency of burning Lambos is definitely enough to give one pause....especially when you think of the ratio of Lambos to Ferraris out on the road.

    Dog bites man.

    Man bites dog.

Guess which one is news worthy?

    Toyota burns to ground.

    Lamborghini burns to ground

    Any guesses yet?

The Federal Gov does a pretty good job of keeping track of such things and if the # of fires per 1000 units produced was out of whack you can bet there would be a recall.

I've got some good friends fairly high up @ NHTSA and, believe me, that's not always the case...you'd be surprised how many things get 'settled' or 'arbitrated' before they ever even come to the public's attention (if ever), much less a publicized recall being issued. Regardless of that, if I'm playing the odds with MY ass in the seat, recall or no recall, I'd certainly want to be aware of the frequency of incidents listed/documented on sites such as this far before I'd ever trust the government to let me know.

Not since Ford Firestone. They are all running scared now.

They never bring anything to the publics attention until a recall but to hide the data from the Fed Gov is a serious crime. One they will not be violating esp after the Ford Firestone debacle.

Car builders are recalling cars for defective glove compartment latches in this enviornment.

And if you do not believe there have not been plenty of reported Ferrari fires you have just not been paying attention. They both get disproportionatly reported because of their news worthyness.

Hardly the case. You'd be very surprised at what is NOT being recalled or brought to the publics attention, rather being fixed very quietly if at all. No one is denying that the government has the data, it's whats being done with it (if anything)that should be your concern. Honestly, I'm aware of several serious defects that the public will never hear about...that's just the way it goes. Again, I count on real data and real documented incidents that I see on this site and others before I'd ever wait for the government to advise me. You are welcome to glean your info/data from wherever you wish.

Post #7 above has stated that. LOL, I'm very aware of the discussed/documented incidents of fires in both Ferraris and Lambos, ergo my post #9.

PS. as far as the veracity of government data, I think if you check NHTSA's web site for noted Ferrari fires and/or Lamborghini fires, you'll come up with '0'....I'll be seeing one of my NHTSA friends this weekend and I'll ask him if there's another way to find out if any such info has been reported and/or recorded, but, I think not.

FWIW, we had Volvo in the late 90's which continually went through light bulbs- headlights, turn signal lamps, brake lights, etc. It got to the point where we were given spares by the dealer, to avoid having to drive back the next day, or a week later, for another replacement. In short, it was ridiculous.
I wrote an excoriating letter to Volvo, stating that the defect was a safety hazard, and that apart from the inconvenience, we could cause an accident by the sudden loss of a light at an inopportune time.
I got a form letter back some weeks later, basically telling me to go **** myself. We got rid of the car soon thereafter.

About six months later, we received a recall notice for precisely the problem that Volvo denied existed.
