http://walterplessonsoccer.blogspot.com/2009/11/vale-steve-gasparinatos-1949-2009.html I never met Steve but we exchanged PM's on many occassions to chat about football. He was president of the Tas football federation and worked tireslessly to have his group recognised on the mainland. The last time we spoke he proudly told me about how his Tas Youth league side were rejected from playing in the National Youth League but he successfully negotiated a deal to have them play 3 friendlies against a a few of the A league youth league sides. He then had the last laugh when the side he brought over to Adelaide won against the Adelaide youth team after being told they weren't good enough to be included. Although I never met him in person he always had time to exchange a PM about BMWs or football and was very supportive of my own ambitions with the sport. RIP
Sad sad news, such a generous nice guy, a real gentleman, we had some great laughs with him. My thoughts are with his family.
I had no idea. I first met Steve on the M5 board and did 3 Tassie trips and 2 NT trips with him. Very sad news.
I have NO idea why he kept it such a secret. I don't think he wanted any fuss. We travelled over there to have lunch with him a couple of months back (bit of an fchat meeting almost)....I sort of suspected it might be the last time I saw him. Last email was about 3 weeks ago. He still managed to be chirpy even knowing the end was near. That takes some guts I reckon. The amazing thing was his illness made him lose weight (you all might have noticed)....it was the best he'd looked in years, he told me
Sorry to hear :-( I believe he may have made it to CA last year or one before(?) and had a chat to him then - very friendly and warm.
