Guys, I was out jogging today, and saw an estate sale. There was a painting there that was stunning (probably means it is worthless!), and I had to have it. I didn't have a lot of money on me, but I bought it for $40 they wanted $150 but it was 2 hrs after the sale already ended and was one of the only items left. It is an oil painting on canvas 20X24 of a forrest landscape scene. I will post pics in a couple hours. It is signed by what appears to read "Opal Cobb" and below that has 1961. I like the look of the painting, but any ideas on if I made a "barn find" . I can't find any info on this artist anywhere... Erik
Erik, I know squat about art... but the rule of thumb I've always followed is: Good art is what talks to you...on a personal level. If the artwork 'says' something to you... then enjoy it.... Is it worth something? Who knows... maybe... it's real value is in its ability excite your senses and take you to a place you wouldn't go under other circumstances. Mike in Kuwait
Mike, Thanks and I am with you! I thought this thing was pretty cool. What do you think? Attached are a couple pics and a close up of the signature which below under the frame says 1961. Any help would be awesome. Erik Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Not your run-of-the-mill landscape, it's a keeper. Well spent 40! Scroll down to July 4, 2002 entry - daughter of Opal G Cobb may very well be daughter of Artist.
Do you still have this painting? Opal was my grandmother. I have the same painting and several others she painted.
Yep still have it and it hangs over my Mantle… very cool and I was never able to find out more information on your grandmother. When did she live? Any more info? Erik
