I'm in for the GTS registry...

78 308 GTS 23421 Jan build originally black over red interior. I've owned it since Dec 2003. I also have more details from two previous owners, let me know when you want it.

    Hi John,

Thank you for saying that, but I am enjoying the heck out of driving a Ferrari in pick up truck heaven here in the panhandle of Texas. It’s the only one around except for the local Classic Motors Cars dealer who gets one in every once in a while. I tell anyone who with listen about how much fun Bob and I had blasting up Mt Lemon when he lived in Tucson or up the coast to Monterey for speed week in August after he moved to California. Maybe his son can get his act together by the time I can’t get in or out of the car anymore because that is when it will be for sale-unless I manage to kill myself in my corvette first. I turn 65 this year, so I’m probably only good for another 20 years or so. “Live forever or die trying!”

The story gets even better! I should have added that in the middle of your story you get to drive one of the true icons of the automobile world!!

Yes, I know it is an icon, but only a few people in this part of the world know it. Some times it’s like there is an invisible bubble around it because people won’t come any closer than a foot or two. The usual question is: “is it a real one?” The other comment, usually from someone looking at the Cavallino on the back is “I never saw a Mustang like this!” I love to visit with people so it doesn’t bother me.

Hi Lars. My Euro 1978 308 GTS, vin# 25053, was, according to Ferrari.com, originally marrone and crema, not the Red and Tan when I purchased it back in 1983.
Al Meyer, the GM of my local F-dealer, the late, great, Grand Prix SSR, only half jokingly said that they were painting the grey market cars right on the pier in Bayonne, as soon as they were off-loaded.
My father had a 1979 red over black, vin #B F106AS28241.
Any information on either car would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
    Best regards, Rick.

    Hi Rick,

Unfortunately no info on 25053, but your father´s car seems to have found its way to Germany. I´ll pm you with some further details.

    Ciao,

Hi Lars. I'm sorry for my tardy reply, my modem took it's last breath on Saturday and I just got back online.
Fascinating news about my fathers' car finding its' way to Germany, if not a bit ironic. At the risk of seeming uninformed (wouldn't be the first time) I would think the flow of Euro cars to the US is greater in number than US cars to Europe. Might be extenuating circumstances, i.e. job transfer, etc. Having driven both my fathers' and my car back to back many times, the performance differences were amazing. My Euro demonstrably faster, better sound, etc. As I mentioned in an earlier posting, the lead mechanic at Grand Prix said my car was the fastest 308 he had ever driven.
Lars, unfortunately I don't have much additional information regarding my fathers' car, other than his (Robert Mc Namee) in-transit (temporary) registration stub dated December 12th, 1983. Obviously he bought the car on or shortly before that date. He sold the car in 1990 or so, to a youngish fellow from Staten Island.
Regarding my car, 25053, I bought the car from a man who resided in NYC (beautiful Brownstone!) through Meadowlands Imports. I'll have to search the attic for my original paperwork, but it was, I believe, August of 1983. He was not the first owner because the car had extra, wider spaced holes drilled for what was obviously not an American license plate. As I mentioned earlier in the post about side mirrors, my car came with the single drivers side "flag" style mirror (non-electric). The car also came with a dual outlet muffler, though the single left side cutout remains in the lower (fiberglass) panel. Surprisingly, it does not have the deeper spoliler.
Thanks again Lars, I'll dig out the original bill of sale with the date and prior owners name asap.
    Best regards, Rick.

    Hi Rick,

First of all many thanks for the additional info on both cars, it's much appreciated!

Concerning the above, back in the 1990s many, many Ferraris were exported from the USA to (mainly) Europe and Japan. I guess the Dollar must have been quite weak back then.

    Ciao,

    Lars T.

Heads Up...s/n sequence seems out of wack
Lars T., Peter, (Toronto,CDN.), Larry Warren, (Ontario, CDN.)

Lars and others, I am confused by two 308 GTS cars from Ontario Canada
    that are listed below:

    4CARBS (Peter)
    1978 GTS s/n 24037
    red/tan
    Ont., CDN

S/N 24037 seems low for 1978. However, I now note that Randy Edwards'
beautiful former Bob Miles black '78 GTS is s/n 24903. There were evidently
a lot of '78 GTS cars built in 1978. My car is:

    jcollingridge (Jim)
    1978 GTS s/n 26903
    red/tan
    Build date: Dec.78
    Assembly #798A
    B.C., CDN

NOW, look at this 1979 GTS:

    RAGTOP1 (Larry Warren)
    1979 s/n 26533
    red/black
    Build date: Nov.78
    Ont., CDN

How do you get a '79 car built in Nov.78 with a lower
serial number than my '78 car built in Dec.78? Anyone
have any thoughts on the out of sequence s/ns.

    Jim

engine # 00900. Would this shed any light on the research ?

I made a photo copy of the State of California - Certificate of Title
when I purchased the car in 2006. The DOT took the original

    vehicle ID # 26533 * 1979 FERRA * year 1st sold 1979

    purchased from :
    Larry Alan Koeneke
    Lake Elsinore CA.

Just a thought. In the past a lot of cars were assigned the model year when they were sold. S/N 26533 was built in Nov. 78, S/N 26903 was built in Dec. 78, so that is in sequence. Perhaps 26533 was not sold until Jan. or later in 1979, hence the 1979 model year on the title. Randy

It appears that the first QV's have a chassis number in the 41700 range. Does anyone have record of a 2-valve later than 41969?

It is an old thread but, after sharing our data on the injection model 2v (GTSi and GTBi registers), here is the link of a missing register for the 308 GTS (carbureted).
Thanks to all owners for any input.

Also, if someone wants to share his list, it will be added with great pleasure because for now, the register is far from perfect but has the merit of existing. We are a few working on that project so any other specialist is welcomed...

I would update the data as I go along with the two other registers.

    Thanks !

    Hello Lars,
    Here is my 308's data:
    S/n # 40543: build # 1668A: engine # 2089; build date January-82, body color Verde Medio (FER 600/c); interior color Beige. 50 k miles, second owner since April 1993

    Here's some data for mine:
F106AS29041, engine number 3912, build date approx Nov 79, now Rossa Corsa (was Marrone in 1983), now Nero interior and carpet (was brown in 1983) , 66041 miles showing, but I believe the true number is much higher (numerous receipts for speedo work, one intrigueingly moved the mileage UP!).
I believe the car was delivered new in Hong Kong in 1980 (first registration); I've owned her in Australia since 2002.

Do you have your build number by chance, it would be interesting to to know how the HK RHD sequence is included in the RHD one like for the GTBs.
Do you have the month of the delivery in HK on the warranty book ?
