Just picked mine up on Sunday. The car is great!! Sorry, I am no help on the parts, but thanks for asking I was going to ask the same thing. What color is yours? Matt
Hey guys, when you get a chance, post driving impressions. I have been watching the market for the V8 Esprit for some time now. I have yet to find one for sale that I can test drive. Enjoy the cars, gentlemen!!!!
Yes, enjoy them. I was thinking seriously about picking one up the past month, but ended up with an NSX instead. (Hey 3 miles from my house, can't beat that!)
I have only had mine for a few days, but here's my first impressions. The car is fast, very fast, almost scary fast! But it is also very easy to get along with in normal driving situations. I drove it about 300 miles on the interstate Sunday, today I drove it to the office and back. The car drives smoother than I thought it would. I am still getting used to launching it though. Any exotic has its quirks, so far the ones I know about are not too bad. It rained almost the entire drive home Sunday, so I will post some more pictures when I get it cleaned up. These are from the ad the previous owner had on the internet: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I will get you guys some pics ASAP. It is Black with Tan, and first thing to do is get rid of the Saturn steering wheel. It is by far the ugliest piece of the car and it has no business in that cockpit. Thank you for the extensive links, I am sure they will help.
You can replace that with a very nice looking 3 spoke that actually has an air bag as well. Go here and do a simple search: http://www.glcforum.com/esprit/forums/ Also very helpfull: http://www.lotusespritworld.com/
Also try: http://www.espritfactfile.com/ Consider joining the principal Lotus club: http://www.lotuscarclub.org/ If you want to dig into the lore of Lotus, also browse here: http://www.coteriepress.com/CP_ProductDetail_01.php?Manufacturer=Lotus&Productid=2 As you are located in Sacramento, this local group might also interest you: http://www.gglotus.org/
Finally got her cleaned up today. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
In driving my Esprit I was at first bothered by what to do with my left leg between clutching. There is no dead pedal, and apparently all you can do is to keep your bent leg awkwardly against the left side of the footwell. I discovered, however, that if one wears a slim pair of shoes (such as loafers), you can carefully slide your left foot under & past the clutch, allowing you to relax your leg and even-out your weight on the seat. You might not bother with this around town, but on a highway run where you're settled into top gear, it's a comfortable option. While it takes a little dexterity to get your foot past the clutch without disturbing it, getting your foot back out is an easy and instant maneuver. Try it. On the other hand, I could never figure out what to do with that one conspicuous dead button on the dash - the one all the way to the right. As I recall, my 348 had one of these too - in the same place - and it always bugged me. Presumably it's for something European (rear fog lamps?) that is a delete on US-cars, but then they should give us something else to do with it. These photos bring home again what an absolutely gorgeous car the Esprit was by the time Lotus finished with it over the years since 1975. I was most amused by the almost-annual changes in the rear wing, as though there was a never-ending argument at Hethel concerning where to put it and what to make it look like. One year it extended past the rear bumper. Another year it was fixed to the rear of the car, not the hatch cover, so that you had to dive over the thing to get into the boot or at the engine when the hatch was open. Finally they got it both correct & pretty.
Anyone notice that both McMansions in the background have the same floor plan? Some windows are different shapes (width), roof is different, etc.
If anyone owns an Espirit, Gonzo at Exotic Speed Shop in Ontario, CA is an expert on these cars. Sent from my 16M
