Anyone else pulled their dashboard dimmer apart?

    Because, that's a natural thing to do I guess :)

    I wanted to see if I could use the potentiometer in some sort of pulse width modulated circuit so I could use the original item to dim LEDs - but to my surprise, when I pulled the one I have apart, it looks like it is already a PWM circuit.

    Or do I have a modern replacement for the old original? In which case I want more!

    I simply bridged this Reostat since the dashboard lights were anyway too dark, that increased the brightness easily by 10% or more.

    I was looking to install LEDs, and was hoping to use the same rheostat but mine appears to have a circuitboard with a 555 timer IC and a Mosfet to handle the power drawn - or at least the replacement dimmer I have does.

    @raymondQV Do you happen to know which of the pins at the back are 12V, ground and then is the output tied to ground or 12V?
