Hi All, Does anyone know or own a Tour de France Blue 2001 550 Marnello with the Reg Y261 KCS. I'm in negotiation to buy it but am concerned that it may not be genuine for reasons I may go into if anyone responds. Thanks Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ha ha well Mark if it is yor car then the buyer of the one I'm trying to buy is not genuine! Ok more info, recent ad on autotrader for the 550 I responded to the seller via email. Although a private sale asked if on the off chance he would take my 348 as a part ex and he agreed (great so far), send him all the info on my car plus pics, ask him fo more info on his including the VIN and Service History so I can do a HPI etc. He send me the Reg but not the VIN and tells me it ws purchased from and serviced by Meridien Modena he's the only owner. So I call Merdien and ask them about the car, they have no record of the car under that reg (ok so maybe he had a private reg and has swopped it!) but service manager also does not recognise the sellers name, (ok again but...) Agree a price with seller but ask that he takes the car to Meridien or has it collected by them (at my expense) so they can check the car out for me and confirm it is all ok and that he is the owner (I only have an email address for him). He tells me he will do but only if I transfer a £5K deposit into a Spanish Bank Account first. I haven't seen the car just pics and he seems unwilling to disclose any further info about himself or the car until I pay the deposit which I won't do till I have the info..... Ok maybe he's worried about me finding where he lives and stealing the car or test driving it and not buying it, but all I'm asking is that the dealer he supposedly trusts to service it checks it over and confirms he is the owner and the cars not stolen etc.. Really want the car especially if he will take my 348 but don't want to get ripped off and it just sounds a bit suspect.. He has sent me lots of photos of the car interior and extreior but I guess he could have got these off another seller or the web..
Yea that's what I figured Cheers guys. Just have to keep looking I guess.. I'm sure the real owner might like to know someone is using photos of his car though. I figure next I'll be checking Autotrader and see my 348 advertised!
Jaime I know the following car if you are interested http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/50127.htm As it happens I am in the market for a 575 so mine might be available http://www.collinsclan.co.uk/Pages/Cars/550/index.html
As several people have already pointed out, something does not seem right about this. He certainly isn't acting like a genuine seller. I would look elsewhere...There is no shortage of good 550's out there... Best of luck
If he couldnt produce the VIN number, then he doesnt have the car. Thats my view - its too easy to get a plate alone off the web. Also , its VERY lucky, extraordinarily so, that he would want to take your 348 in PX. That cant be a very common swap. And why sell a Ferrari to then have to just sell another Ferrari. They are difficult enough to shift as it is.
