Been hanging out on the 348 part of the site. But this car came up on crags list.
    Mondial T
    Red over tan
    VIN # 86950
Put a deposit on it today. Very nice condition. 48K miles. All original w/new top.
All electrics work. Paint is a 8.5 out of 10.
Major done late 2007, 20K miles ago.
Insane stereo (but thats not what it is about).
    Drives very nicely.
Front windows are quick, rears not so much.
    I'll post pix later tonight

    Thoughts?

    Thanks

Thoughts based on what? There's no link. There are no pictures. And, it seems, you've already committed, so how would our "thoughts" be of value?

The only thought that makes any sense to me - - is to wish that you drive your new Mondi in the very best of health. :):)

Now you have to figure out how to post some pictures...... we'll be right here, waiting.

    Cheers, Hank

I came very close to buy that car about a month ago. If it haven't change the electrical is NOT all working. Passenger side seat belt is non operative. One of the compartment lid solenoid is not working. Also two warning lights are hiden by a piece of tape on the cluster(I have pics if you want). I agree car looks really good. Has 360 wheels on it and comes with the original ones too. If you want to know how much he agreed to sell to me PM me. I'm not saying it is not a good car but seller seem to not disclose everything when you don't ask for proper info. If I wouldn't have ask for the tape I spotted on the pics he told me the car needed nothing and never mentionned them. So be carefull or pay accordingly. Get the car a PPI. Steve Arena was asking me $500 to do a full PPI with compression and leakdown test. www.arena-motors.com/ But and the very last moment I bought the one from Scaledetails here on Fchat. Good luck.

Also keep in mind this car needs engine out service within a year. And if you can't do it yourself this is expensive. BTW he was telling me the belts were done 7000 miles ago. You say 20,000. Which is right? But anyway this is due again.

I was looking at all the pics I have of this car and I have to agree it is a nice looking car. Interior is very nice too. Also car has all the books, tools and original cover. I really hope the new owner will have fun with it. Please let us know how it turn out for you!

The seller told me he was the second owner since 13 years now. The original owner was apparently a dentist. Sold new in N.Y. area but can't remember the dealer name.

Thanks to everyone for you input.
I was wrong about the milage since the Major. The 20K miles was the difference since PO purchased and current milage. About 8K is correct according to the seller.
I did notice that the solenoid did not work for the engine lid.
I did not realize the power seatbelt "mouse" was not operational. Thanks for that one. Also the tape covering warning lights, didn't catch that one either. My photos don't show that issue. Can you tell what warning lights are covered by their location? I am not knowledgeable enough on the exact locations of the warning lights.
What I did notice is that the paint in the wheel wells is peeling a bit where the rolled edge ends. It is not visible any where you need to feel for it. Also a bit of bubbling of paint on the door bottom edges, again not noticeable from a normal perspective, you need to feel for this too. A couple of spots and small rock chips on the front that have been nicely touched up.
So here is one thing: the "seller" is the owner of a Mobil gas station/repair shop in White Plains, NY. He claims that he purchased last month and his wife is making him give up the car. Something about too many cars in the household. I am guessing this is actually a consignment situation. He never registered the car in his name. He still has the "PO" title.
Do you think this is a RED flag??
The car started instantly from cold, ran so well and handled sharply with no noises or rattles, as well as the cosmetics being so nice, I didn't haggle on the price. It seemed fair to me.

godabitibi: I will PM you for more info, Thanks.

I agree that I should do a PPI, I hope the seller is OK with that. I would like to move on this pretty quickly.

Thanks again to all whom commented.

If he didn't title it, its almost certain it's on consignment or he's selling for a friend. No one buys a car and doesn't title it.

I don't think it's a red flag but I would ask the guy the true story. It may work out to your advantage as when you sell it, it will have one less "owner". Some people don't like buying cars with too many owners.

Mondial T's are more expensive to maintain. But, they are really good cars too.

Did you try putting down the roof? I found it to be really hard to put up by myself.

For the lights as Mike said read the other thread and you'll see my pictures with the two arrows showing the tapes. One is probably for the passenger belt. The other is a check engine from what the owner told me. He said it would blink once in a while but the car run OK so he covered it. That is a red flag. Can be expensive to fix. The pass belt if need to buy is really expensive and the solenoid for the lid is around $700 retail price from OEM.

How can you own a car for 13 years and not be in your name? That sound weird!

In his ad on Carsonline.com he said he wants to move up to a 360, no business or wife story. The owner I talked to was Jon Michaud, is it the same guy? I talked with him 3 times over the phone and exchanged many emails always signed as JON.

If you can get the car to Arena motors and check the Carfax it would help to better know the car. BTW I checked with the other Ferrari specialist(dealer) closer to him and they were twice the price of Arena. He is about 45 miles from the car.

Also a couple swithches were fit in the console in place of the original dummy swith and on the dash the dummy is missing the front. The ashtray has been removed and covered with a plastic piece. The ashtray is around $350 if you want it back to original.

The advantage you have over me is that you are close and test drove it. I was buying sight unseen.

You guys rock. Thanks for so much for the info. Great support for a stranger. I may have studied up a bit on Ferraris, but I know nothing compared to all of you.

Special thanks to godabitibi for detailed info.

I guess it is just hard to keep an objective eye when you are sitting in the car and driving around. The tape covering the warning lights is a red flag to me. I did notice the added/replaced/missing switches on the dash and console that were mentioned. I am more worried about the adjustable shocks and the warning lights than anything else. If the solenoid for the engine lid is has burned out windings, it could be rewound. Of course there may be much more to it and I'm not eager too drop $700 to replace, if not absolutely necessary.

In retrospect I now remember the ride feeling a bit too stiff (even if the Pilots are a bit unfriendly-ride wise, I had them on my Infinity G35 coupe), and second gear being a bit to difficult to shift into, even with the car having been run for 10 minutes or more.

I have left a voice message for who appears to be the actual owner, I hope he calls back so I can get some real information about all of this.

I'll report back when I have more.

One more thing to consider. The 360 wheels on the car mostlikely rub becasue the rears are too wide and can not be bolted straight on. I had this issue bought a car with a set and every little bump the rears would rub. I had the wheel wells rolled but no luck swaped them out for a set of 348 rims. Plus they will make your braking system look weak and expose thier less than stellar eye apeal. Have cash for the major and anything else that has been deferred ont he car.

This particular car had the rear wheels machined to get them more inside the car. The owner told me that.

    Update:
I was able to speak to the owner who owned this car last month, before the current owner bought it. I think the story about the wife demanding that the car be sold may have some truth to it. The current owner never registered it. The title is still in th pervious owners name, never signed over. Current owner has dealer plates and is trying to make some quick cash and turn it over.
Prior owner had the car for 13 years, had it painted (a very nice job BTW), front seats recovered, front shocks replaced (twice). Did the major w/new water pump, I know he had the valves and cams removed, I have pix of the major in progress in 2007. It took 12 days to perform. The valve covers were repainted. Many hoses replaced. Got 360 rims and had the rear rims machined to have the tires fit in the fenders. New top a few years ago. He said he covered the warning lamp for the automatic belt on the passengers as well as the slow down 1-4 lamp because it bothered him when driving in the dark. He also said the 5-8 lamp had gone on/off intermittently and he had the Thermocouple replaced. He didn't bother with the 1-4 lamp when it had the same symptom, just covered the lamp. Who knows if this is real?
BTW the car was always covered and garaged.
He gave me the independent mechanic's phone number and raved about him: Vinnie from Auto Elite in Tenafly NJ. Anyone know about him?

So here is what I plan to do:
I am going to call Vinnie and ask him to give me as much info as possible. I don't know what I will get from him that may help my cause. But if I get anything good I will use it and the fact that it is now almost 5 years since the major to bargain down the price. I am going to try to get about 4K off the price as well as allow me to get a PPI. I don't think I can expect much more from the current owner. I know what the current owner paid for the car, so I will leave a little profit for owning the car for a month.
The rest of the car is outwardly in such good condition, if I get 4K and a PPI, I will go for it.
